Need Ride/Trip Recommendations

I have a four day trip planned for late April.  However I have done this trip before and was thinking about doing something different.  

Most of our trips are from point A to point B just enjoying the ride and the scenery.  We have not really enjoyed stopping on the way at so called Tourist Attractions.   One exemption was our Bourbon Tour through Kentucky.  That was cool.  

So, I know it's sort of weird to ask out of the blue, but I was trying to do something different and reached a mental empass.

It would be sort of cool to ride to point "A" and then stay there for two nights spending the next day or two  just seeing what's in the area.  

At this point, due to planning issues, we are limited to four days on the road.  

My first mental plan was to go to point A, spend the next day at point A just looking at things in the nearby area.  I guess a ride from A to B then back to A would be ok.  

I was looking at some place in south eastern Kentucky.   Just because it's not SC or NC or GA.  

I know this sort of "weird" stuff, but......  

Oh and places like Asheville and large cities are out.  

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lots of fun roads to explore, trails to hike, or just sit on the edge of the mountain sipping bourbon  and smoking a cigar if that's your thing.

Largest mountain range between the Appalachian and the Rockies I believe...

Big South Fork, both KY and TN. Lots of 2 lane back roads.

If your in Eastern Ky, I would recommend Rt 42 along the Ohio River. Curvy, Scenic, and a few places to pull off and have a look see. You can pick it up Just North of Warsaw Ky, off of Rt 127N. If you have time, you could go a little farther N and see the town of Beaverlick, and Big Bone Lick historical site and further N to Rabbit Hash Ky. There is an old General store there, and the Mayor is a dog.

Breaks Interstate Park is worthwhile and SR 80 is a fun way to get there.

Cumberland Gap National Park is interesting if you've never been there.

Natural Tunnel State Park near Duffield, VA.


Some very fine members of the VRCC should be gathering in this area (Norton,VA) on Memorial Day weekend for the Hillbilly Highways Ride.

If you can make the trip back or postpone your April trip there's some very good riding in this area.
