Rocketman2035

I just wanted to introduce myself. I bought my 1999 Valkyrie IS about 6 months ago. It has a custom paint job and a Corbin seat. It only had 17,000 miles on it. I was a little worried that I would have carb problems because it obviously sat a lot but it seems to run great.

I was looking for a gold wing when I found it. I have had a 1982 GL1100 Interstate and a 2000 GL1500 SE but I really like the Valkyrie.

I need to do some maintenance on it. The tires are in excellent shape but they are 21 years old so I think I had better change them.

Anyway, I hope to get to know you all better. I will post pictures when I get it cleaned up.

Welcome from Spring Hill. Maybe if you state were you are from, someone in your area could lend a hand or suggest we're to take it for maintenance you may not feel like tackling. I too am a proud owner of an IS.

Welcome.
You are going to have to study up. R/R of the rear wheel is a serious process and you cannot even trust all Honda certified dealerships to do it right. Just ask around and if you don't do it yourself (I recommend you do). Make sure it gets done right.

Howdy Rocketman2035!

I agree, rear end maintenance is kinda a "thing" on these Valkyries.  You may have a bit of task getting that rear tire off for the first time.  I highly recommend getting a Honda Shop Manual.

FYI, there's a "Rocketman" in the Houston area.  He works for NASA and rides an Interstate.  At least he did ride an Interstate.  He was rear ended a couple of weeks ago, but has vowed to get another Interstate ASAP.  (He was OK by the way.)

Welcome from Ormond Beach. They're addicting, started with a tourer, then got an interstate, then a standard. Problem being, I haven't sold any. Lol. There's tons of knowledge and plenty of help scattered all over Fl. Great group of guys all over the country. Keep checking back for ride to eat (mostly around central Fl area's). Enjoy

:cooldude: Welcome to the Valkyrie team! I'm in the Pan-handle with a few others. There is a gentleman in Perry, FL who is available to work on Valkyries if you need someone. He is very good as he rides a Valkyrie too and knows these bikes very well. He is not on VRCC so if you need his info PM me.  :coolsmiley:

No Valkyrie or any motorcycle any longer but we have had a few in the past.  Welcome to the board.  Definitely change the tires.  Maybe the timing belts, be very careful if you tackle this job as you don't want to get the cams and the crankshaft misaligned.

I live in Cocoa. I'm assuming the maintenance on the Valkyrie will be some what like the GL1500 Goldwing I had. Does anyone know? I did all of the maintenance on it.

Similar, sounds like you already have a leg up on the curve.  Of course there are a few more carbs to keep synced up and a few more Horsepower to manage.  ;D

 Waiting on that pic  :???: I had a beautiful IS along w/ Renegade but  the spousal unit said can't have 3 bikes :-\ bummer. I  had the infamous BigBF "SuperValk" her too! Maybe you can attend the Tally Rally in Oct. Great time to be there.  :coolsmiley:

One of the few differences between the two, the rear end service is a little more involved. Plenty of threads on the subject (every tire change) and obviously the carbs. Otherwise maintenance will be about the same. Plenty of people in Fl. and on here willing to help and answer any questions.
