I'm coming up on 200K on my 98 Standard and will install the third set of timing belts.  I'm not sure but I suspect I might possibly have a tension pulley that might be running a tad rough.  Has anyone changed the bearings on the timing belt tension pulleys on this engine or do I just cough up the $85+ for a tension pulley assembly?

Perhaps, the pulley's bracket is the expensive part. Others will chime in on a tensioner replacement.

there are holes in the backing plate which allows a small amount of grease to be added with a needle fitting.  or find a low mileage set on ebay many are selling low mileage now running bikes on there. estate sale/s, owner passed away, etc. the ebayers can make more money parting them out than getting it running and selling it. I've picked up some low mileage items over the yrs.  GL1200 are the same as the GL1500.
