I'm considering putting some of my writings into a sort of coffee table book.  Most of what I write is available online but then I am retired; I could use a little extra income and it might amuse some folks to be able to pick up a book and just read a few pages.

I need some of you, my friends, to tell me whether you think it's a good idea or not.

What would be neat, and I'd be interested is such a thing would be a book called "Inzanity" Rally of Dragons.

Stories about the Inzane rallies, like Dave Carter at Athens, pie auctions, highlights and low lights that folks remember from previous ones with lots of cool bike pictures and riders with stories to tell.

I've only been to two of them so my perspective is minimal? But I know there are those who have made, attempted to make or darn near have made everyone.

Willow, you'd have prolly the best perspective of all.

It has been a few years since I read your musings, I remember though that you were an excellent writer.  What I do remember though is that your writings were varied topics; those that know you will find this entertaining.  I'm wondering though if you don't focus just on motorcycle topics??  Even slightly mentioned will do.  The occasional journey in to the mind is something you are exceptional at, incorporate  that end and then you have something.

I am an avid reader and the best motorcycle book I've read is "Jupiters Travels" by Ted Simon.  He was a writer first and a motorcyclist second, and the story shows it.  The short stories you do are a different format, but can you weave them in to a timeline so we can follow your growth/tests?

As far as making some money, I do not think that should be your motivation.  There was a time 20-30 some odd years ago I did a lot of free lance writing for publications, magazines, newspapers, journal style, etc.  The old saying goes, I didn't make much money but made a lot of friends.  Fortunately I never gave up my day job.  I did one short book too. I found a publisher after a few attempts, and that is when the real work began.  The editors were buggers for detail work and rewrites and by the time of the final release I was mentally done with it.  2500 copies have been sold, which was the first and only run.  A standard payout of 10% of the net for first time writers is common.  Book retailed for about $14 and the net was about $7.  So for every book sold I cleared .70 cents, or about $1750.  But with that, the publisher assumes all the financial responsibility, publicity, and distribution.  It was a non motorcycle book, more academic in nature.

The other option of course is a self publish, probably a better option these days.  A lot of small presses will print out books in small batches.  So, one can order 50 books and six months later order 10 more and the press can do that easily with modern technology.  You will need to find a very good editor though; they are worth their weight in gold, a professional.  

But yes, do it.  The journey is worth it.  Best of luck.

Consider presenting your work and ideas to a Literary Agent, also called a "Book Agent".  That's probably the best way to get started.  Once you have multiple best sellers you won't need one.

I like the idea too... I also like Serk's advice, I had the same thought. I like to read and have all Daniel's books and find myself rereading portions time to time as they come to mind often.
If you put a book into print I'd like an autographed copy.
