Bought a book last week

I don't normally buy books for reading. Most are magazine subscriptions or tech manuals, how to or things like that.
I came across a book in one of the mags that reminded me of my dad. He was very reserved for many years about his service
in the Korean war, telling snippets now and then. In his later years it seems he had more of an urgency to tell stories, both the good and the bad,
the where and what. He was possibly anxious that that part of his life was important, and not to be forgotten. Anyway I ordered the book, The Rifle.
I understand it is a group of stories by veterans from ww2 brought on by an m1 garand that they signed at the end of their stories.
I just received it and haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I'm sure it will remind of me of Dad.

      Youngest Daughter was maybe 5 or 6 at the time so 22  23 year ago at a Friends house here in SoMo 2 old WWII Veterans got to talking about Their experiences in WWII. All the younglings were TOLD to go play in the yard. And thse 2 Former U S Army Veterans got to comparing notes and realized for 10 or 11 months during the mop up in Germany they were never more than 6 or 7 miles apart but in totally different units. One of them was a Bazooka man and the other was a Rifleman. At the time the Bazooka man related while he was on the Bazooka that the average lifespan of a Bazooka man was measured in minutes. As stated he did it for 10 or 11 months. Seeing the Rows of his ribbons at his Funeral told more of his story than he did. The Highest Award he held was The Silver Star. 
      The Rifleman had 4 purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Somebody else asked him how many enemy he had killed. He Refused to answer but stated I'll have to sort that out come Judgement Day. I was on the road when he passed.
       I personally believe that When These HEROES do start talking they have a pretty good idea the end may be closer than they'd like to admit. And heard this more than Once-time doing what the enemy Could Not. RIDE SAFE.
