quite the storm through here yesterday

Not my house.


Wind and rain here not as bad as elsewhere, but many without power in the NE.  Strong enough wind here to blow steel street signs over.

I lost power this morning.  I was out in my driveway when a Power truck rolled by and I flagged him down.

We've lost power.

I know, do you know where the trouble is?

No, I was hoping you did. 

I have no idea, but that's why I'm wandering around your neighborhood.

Got it back in a few hours. 

I've got a big generator, but it's all winterized (tank drained, bowl cleaned, plug oiled, fresh oil), and I won't run it unless we are down for a lengthy period.

Fingers crossed, I have my roof repaired and hope the little leak over the dining-room table goes away.

Not much wind here but plenty of rain.   Glad your place was basically unharmed.

It was wet and wild (not in the way I enjoy) here in my slice of taxachusetts last night and much of today. We lost power for a few hours, but there are many still without electricity at this late hour, and unlikely to get it back soon. My back yard is a mess. Several trees down, and so many branches that you can barely take a step without sticks crunching under your feet. Took out my storage shed and a boat project that wasn't really going anywhere anyway. I'll be busy this weekend.

Blowing 20-30 constant for 2 days (except at night).

I wouldn't mind it so much if my all cleaned up yard (with 5 giant oaks) was all cleaned up perfectly, but now is full of leaves from WVA and TN.   

The other thing; even with decent insulation and good windows and doors, you got to bump the thermostat up to keep the chill out of the house (and old bones).

Rained pretty good around here.  Backyard had water sitting on top of the grass with nowhere to go.  Sump pump finally came on in the basement.  It works every time, but EVERY TIME I hold my breath waiting because if it doesn't...........

Gary, sometimes a failing sump pump will kick on if you reach down in the hole and thump it with a broom handle a few times.  However, once you are doing this, it's time for a new pump. 

I've had occasion to lay on my side, to squeeze back between the wall and my big basement refrigerator, and hand bail my sump hole with a small pail, dumped out the back door.  Better than a flooded utility room.  The joys of home ownership never end.
