Ok, at least it's not oil, right??!!??

I'm needing a rear tire on my bike before April.
I have a 200 Avon now.  The front is an Avon also but is still good.
I like the look of the 200 and would like to stay with it.

I can get an Avon for $270 online and $300 through local dealerships.
I can get a Bridgestone for $235 online.

I would like opinions on:

Bridgestone tires
and
Running different brands front and rear.
Remember, if you are on a bike and wreck with a car no matter how "in the right" you are you are going to lose. RIDE LIKE EVERBODY IS OUT TO GET YOU!!

I never had a problem running different brands front and rear.    I've used both with good result.
Now I got a set of Metzler 888s, and for the first time in a long time my front wheel doesn't wobble at 45mph, hands-off.
I had always figured it was too-light damping or the too-small wheel bearings on '97s, but it seems it was not completely that.
...insert hip saying here..

Dunlop, Bridgestone, Metzler, car tire... after every change I end up putting the Avons back on.

I have made a Burning-ground of my heart
That Thou, Dark One, hunter of the Burning-ground,
Mayest dance Thy eternal dance.

Best rear tire I ever had; on both bikes now.  Minimal car tire effect on riding too.

And you'll get 30K+ miles too.

I am running that exact one in 205/65 on two of my Valks. It'll be on the third one when I finally wear out the HydroEdge that is on it now.

It's a great tire.   :cooldude:

I may have overstated an estimate that it will go 30K.  Both of mine are pretty new, and the compound is softer than my previous car tires.  It will certainly do better than the 7-8K I got out of all my various bike tires in the past.

I think you may have understated the expectancy. Mine started with 10.5/32" tread depth. I now have approximately 9,000 miles on it, and it is now showing 9/32" depth. The math on that is 6000 miles per 32" of tread depth. If I run it to 2/32" (I've been known to do that) I'm guessing that 7/32" left figures out to another 40,000 miles. That'd give me about 50K on it. I've only gotten that much from a Michelin HydroEdge before.

I'm starting running my 2nd set of Bridgestone Exedras. I used Cobra AV72's (discontinued) in between Exedra sets. Honestly not being a aggressive rider, both handled just fine in all conditions. I'm using balance beads on the front Cobra and its having issues wearing out @ 21,000 mi. 15,000 mi. w/o beads on the Exedras. Rear tire, 12,500 on both BS and Avon.

That's great news.  :cooldude:

They'll both probably outlast me.   ;D

I'm an optimist at almost 70 years old. I already have another one here for when this one is used up.
