Last Friday I left work at noon and walked out the door to my truck in 35 inches of snow that came down in about 6 hours off of Lake Michigan. That's a record for me. Previously my record was 24 inches.
Hope I never see it again.

I lived in Valpo from '59 to '62 (1st to 3d grade).

I remember snow there.  

I just looked on line, and Cook's Corners Elementary School is not the same old (small) building I attended.

I had to walk through the yards becasue my mom would not let me walk along the main road that sided our house.  It was too dangerous.      I never rode the bus once in 3 years.

honestly say I have never seen a one time snowfall over 18 inches and not care to see another one either.

 I can sympathize with you. I can remember a couple of times in my life we got 3 feet out of a storm. A 2 foot snowfall overnight isn't all that rare  on the shores of N.E. Ohio. Then there's Buffalo, they are the king of lake affect around these parts s far as I know. The last few years have been pretty tame for snowfall for us.

Yup

Had a great Dane and cleaned the top of the steps and landing leading into the house flush with the top of the snow. The Dane did not realize this, stepped off the landing and his front legs sunk down into the snow while his rear legs were still on the landing.

So deep I could not see his head, I laughed so hard that is one of my memories from that snow storm.

Woke up today, opened my upstairs window, and it was warmer outside than inside my house.  Holy Sh!t.

Got my walk in, in just a shirt.  Ate a quick breakfast, rolled the bike out, wiped her down, and burned a 4 hour ride out in the country... in just a shirt.  Bike running perfectly.  Roads were mostly dry, so very little road gook.

75-6 degrees.  Happy smiling motorcyclists all over the place; guys were just laughing.  What a great day!

I did get caught at a crossing by a long ass train.  Hauled ass out of there toward home (all backroads), and caught the same train again halfway back.

First monsoons of water, then a deep freeze with ice and snow, now a crazy warm January day.

59 tomorrow (I'll ride again), then back to the 40s.

Sorry you guys missed it.

Jess (PS; got back to my house but rolled around the back of my neighborhood to see if a buddy was out, and he was. While talking, this beautiful amazon of a woman walks up with her dog, and he knows her.  I detected a slight foreign accent, and ask, and she's German. We hit it right off and she rides her own Softail Hog.  But she's married.  Just as well, she'd probably kill me in the tomfoolery (I can dream can't I?).  LOL

Snow/rain/ice for the last 36 hours or so here in my area of MA. Not much, but still sucks. Growing to dislike snow more and more as life goes on. Funny, I had started a thread a couple years ago about moving out of here (for more reasons than the weather, that's for sure). I found it again and have been re-reading all of the recommendations. Even if we do wait until the kid is done with school, he's going into 9th grade next year, so it isn't too long I guess.

i do not mind the snow as much as freezing rain and high winds.  I can drive in snow vs. roads glare ice.  I can do stuff outside if cold out just not HIGH winds.

Even though only in 50's,  my wife and me have talked about retiring early once her mom passes we should be able to make a go of it next 20 years or so and move believe it or not up north where it is colder and more snow than southern WI.  Is where my kids are at up north in same town, just live 1 hour away or so is better than 3 hours away now.  I found our dream home this past weekend new construction 1 year old, metal roof, 2 bedroom, 2 bath with attached 42x50 pole shed and 15 acres with enough woods up north.  ONLY kicker was 389K and right not that not feasible until inheritance kicks in.  Just saw it sold, was a good deal but still 389K.  I do not feel like going into debt again like was in my 20's.

Since I retired, I pretty much wear a T-Shirt every day.   Wearing one right now, of course have a flannel shirt over it.

This was snapped January 14th after the last overnight storm blew through.  That is my new truck under that white crap.  We got another six or eight inches before it was done.  It took me days to shovel out three vehicles, our drive and a path to the life sustaining woodpile.



Another big, heavy snow bomb coming in tomorrow evening lasting thru Saturday or Sunday.

I'm currently experiencing that all too familiar pre-storm dread again.

Pissed off the HOA putting on a 12 x 20 shed years ago.  The fat ladies hang out there in the winter.  I don't think I could get anything else past the association structure wise, but even a carport would be a godsend.

My opinion would be to build a 40 x 50 feet pole barn, and when the HOA gets pissed, tell them "F*** off. I'm tired of digging all my stuff out when we get 2 feet of snow overnight."
