Brake pad replacement surprise. Crap!
Challenger:
Rear brake started that squeaking thing so I ordered three sets of rear I/S pads part #06435-MBY-671. Started on the rear and install went smoothly, Flushed fluid and bled brakes. Moved to front left, pads were worn to about 25% left. Install went fine, just had to remove the heat shield from the rear pads to fit on the front. ($50.00 savings)
Right side pads looked almost new W.T.H. Pistons were froze solid in the caliper and were not doing any braking. :tickedoff: I've flushed and bled the brakes every two years since I've owned this I/S and never noticed anything weird. :o Anyway, I repaired the caliper and reinstalled. After flushing, bleeding and burnishing the pads, I noticed it takes a little less pressure to activate the brakes. I checked the front disks for wear with a micrometer and could not see much difference. (less than .001) All is well that ends well I guess. :cooldude:
And a BIG thanks to whom ever discovered that rear I/S pads will work on the front.

Figures after ALL this time with my beloved 99 Green and Pewter/Silver I/S I find yet more information I hope the next owner appreciates. Why the next owner? Case y'all missed it I'll soon have a lightly used-less than 91 G on the clock-88 G W Trike. I WILL Truly MISS Phatt Ghurl but the left hip no longer has fun supporting close to a half ton of M/C when I'm fully loaded on a road trip. So with much sadness time to git that 3d wheel under these old bones. This board overall has been of Much Unlimited HELP in more ways than one. RIDE SAFE.

I believe it was you 98valk, cause I remember having a web site discussion with you about the metal backing plate. I couldn't see how the plates could be removed with out harm or against Honda engineers spec.
You explained it was a heat shield used because the rear brake works alone and is not as open to air cooling as the front.
Worked for me and I've not bought a set of fronts since.
So, thanks also.
