Earth Quake in NJ.

Just saw it sort of live on the news.

Anyone affected.  

Said it was a 4.8 Magnitude quake

Update:  News now says it was at "Whitehouse Station"

Just had a friend text me and tell me she felt the earth move....................  

My first question was, who are you with....  

Apparently, she was alone.   Makes me wonder.

Felt it all the way down by me, some 60+ miles northwest of us. I was on a FaceTime call with my daughter in Boston. My patio doors started shaking slowly at first and I thought something was up with the wind then they shook even harder and that's when the whole house shook for about a total of 10-15 seconds.

It was definitely a weird feeling and situation. Now I know what a 4.8 feels like from 60 miles away.

Glad you are ok. I thought of you when I made the post.   Should be a few after shocks and they will be less than 4.8.   Also, this was a sort of shallow earthquake and I think that made it a little more "fellable".

Yeah we're good, checked out the house a couple times real quick. No cracks in the basement or the sheet rock and no plumbing leaks.

When Ft. Dix/McGuire are doing live fire exercises we can hear the boom booms, when their using the heavy artillery we can feel the boom booms except then the ground vibrates and the house shutters. Sometimes it goes on all day, the earthquake was a much different feeling. Weird that's for sure.

I lived though dozens of those at March AFB (Riverside) CA.  My favorite was when it made my water bed start rocking and rolling like in a boat.  Though a big picture over that bed fell behind the head board and shattered the glass.  No glass picture ever went back there again (that was pretty stupid).

One, out in the desert on a duty day at HQ 15 AF, shook our old building so bad, everyone got up and ran outside in case it crumbled.  It didn't.  One big fuzzy tarantula spider walked in while we were running out.  I believe he liked the air conditioning.

As of yesterday I hadn't heard of any damage but this morning I came across this article.

The photos show some of the stone had fallen from the building but it doesn't look all that bad. Hopefully there isn't any real structural damage.

About the dog, very interesting how it knew in advance.   Not the first time I have heard of that.

I think the dogs (animals) don't know in advance... but sense it sooner than us preoccupied humans do.

I walk (pretty quietly) daily, and a number of dogs in backyards start barking as I go by.  I dislike all barking dogs (except any that bark at actual danger or trouble).  Not just some (any) reason to bark.  Though I know it's in their DNA.   And I believe the reason many bark is they are jealous and would like to go walking too.  Many get walked but I'm pretty sure many never do.  Lazy humans.

A neighbor friend has two basengis he walks daily, dogs that can't bark. 

Speaking of walking, there are two young couples just across the street.  They each have tiny new daughters just learning to walk and run a little.  It is a joy to watch them, and they love getting together and have taken up wobbly racing.
