What is the best kind of driving lights for a 2000 valkyrie standard with a national windshield?

I just bought these for my lightbar, and WOW do they light up the road.  plus they look really cool....They are sold by Cobra and fits like the originals on a Cobra lightbar.......they are designed to mount on a flat surface

I like the look of those lights.
They look like they can fit 4" bulbs with connectors that point straight back. I have some halogens with the straight back connectors that will not fit like the original shallow profile Cobra housing and right angle connections.

I'm trying to put together an HID set up for the acessory lights and for the head light.

What kind of bulb are you running ?

yep...them halogen h3's are brighter at 25W than the sealed beams were at 55W  I like them

I sure would like driving lights on the Red Diamond, but haven't seen anything I want to mount on it. Don't want to pay 800 to $1000 for the originals either. Maybe  someone can recommend something. Thanks.

go to cruiser customizing and search 55-312. it's a great light bar. very solid and heavy construction. fit my 98 tourer (with giant windshield) perfectly with no adjustments necessary. $331.00 is a good price.

I think motolights only light up the road a tiny bit... but they make you stick out like a sore thumb - other people see you...

man...I wudda thought for as bright as they are and how much they cost they would light up the road better.  My last spots were to help me be seen ONLY they barely lit the road and I got tired of feeding them to do half the job.  These new ones earn every watt of power and I can see the road now!  I dont know how I put up with such poor lighting at  night for so long  ???

Since I suffer from MIB syndrome...has anyone installed 130w H3 offroad bulbs in thier driving lights. I understand the need for proper wire/relay sizing. My lights are National Cycle I think, but the same basic size as the Cobras. Just curious if anyone has tried this. Did the fixture melted into a puddle on the floor, ignited into flame and burned your Valk to the ground? Or did they work great producing enough light to do some serious night riding?

QOTFU and I both have motolights on the Harleys.  I haven't gotten around to putting them on the Valks yet, but we love them.  I got them because they do light up the road so well.  Had a friend following me one night on a very dark road.  He stayed back at least 100 fee behind me and his motolights were still lighting the road in front of me.  Align them right and they should light up the road well.  That and the the triangle light pattern is what sold me.  Motolights stands behind their products.  I had a relay go out about a year after I bought them and they replaced it, no questions asked.  They even provide a lifetime replacement warranty on the bulbs.  The stock set comes with 35w bulbs.  I bought some 50w bulbs at Home Depot and upgraded.  I called them and just happended to catch one of the owners and negotiated a chrome ring upgrade, black finish, and free shipping at no additional charge from the base price.  That was about 3 years ago when business was still booming.

I bought another brand to try because they were about $150 less than the motolights, but the mounting hardware was so crappy.  They wouldn't tighten securely on the fender/fork mount.  Lightly bump them and they moved.  They're back in the box on the shelf in garage.  I'm going to get Motolights for the Valks eventually.

So the stock bulbs included with those new Cobra replacements are the H3's and are much brighter or did you have to plug in some new bulbs?

I've got the 50W jobs in my original Cobra lightbar but desperately need some better hiway light-up for these aging eyes.

May I suggest also you consider installing Motolights on the front forks.  These really light up the road along with you driving lights and headlight.  They really have a wide beam which is great for the sides of the road. These have a seperate toggle switch that can be mounted right behind the windshield. Can't have too many lights to keep cagers alert.  Tom
