Black Pearl's Captain

My parents are Texas snowbirds, they have spent the last 14 winters on the north most part of Padre Island in Texas, Port Arnasas. It's a slow paced winter usually, go look at the ships passing thorugh the Corpus Christi ship channel. Kick some shells around on the beach. Lunch at the Pizzaria and supper in the 5th wheel. But every once in a while everyone gets a little extra action. This week was a dead whale.

It washed up just a mile south of Port Aransas city and they dug a BIG hole and buried it in the sand dunes.

Follow the links for more info.

I'll bet Fiddle Mike could smell it from his house if the breeze was out of the nor'east just a bit.

Wow... putrification odor from that would not only carry, but LINGER.  Imagine taking a stroll on the sand and accidently finding a sudden soft spot that might act like quick sand !?!   :o

Here is one option the the folks in the PNW came up with..... didn't work out too well... :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Lets blow up a whale

blue=3 times
green=at least 4 times
When they are all 'green'.. I'll stop counting.

Hey, RD. How's tricks?

If they left the carcass below the high tide line it would sink and not be a hazard. It would be a health hazard before then, though.  There are several cars and trucks out on, or in, Padre Island where the waves washed the sand out from under them.  Years back, someone was excavating a Spanish ship at the shore line and when the Feds turned greedy, digging stopped and the boat disappeared, again.

Oh, you know... life is.  LOL

Leave it to the gubment to muck up a perfectly good plan.

I can only imagine the stench.  LOL  I remember once as a kid, dad had found a "floater" seal pup while he was out fishing.  Someone had pulled it from their nets... and, for some reason, dad wanted the hide... so, he brought it home and was skinning it out back of the house.  The stench within 50' in every direction was horrible.  And, we're talkin' a little, 30 lbs. carcass.  He skinned it, scraped/tanned it... but, it then lived in the basement for a number of years before it finally got tossed.  Every time I saw that hide, I remembered that overpowering stench.  LOL
