Hot Ride to Jamestown, RI

Because of the heat and humidity, I hadn't been out for a decent ride in two weeks. Despite the heat and humidity, I thought a ride to Jamestown might work because it's cooler there. And if we got an early start, maybe it wouldn't be too bad. I asked Gary to come and he agreed.

We left his house about 10:30 this morning. To get there quickly, we took all highway. It wasn't too bad until we got stuck in an accident-caused traffic jam on route 4 southbound in Allenton, RI, just north of the route 1 junction. Seems like every time we're down there, we encounter an accident caused-traffic jam. And it was hot and it sucked. 90+ But once we cleared it and were on route 138 eastbound over the Jametown-Verrazzano Bridge, the temps dropped to 83. It felt great.

We parked on the street on the eastern end Narragansett Ave in Jamestown, proximate to restaurants. Gary took a picture of a Destroyer leaving the harbor.

We had lunch at the East Ferry Market and Deli. Great sandwiches. We got a small table inside to out of the sun, which was welcome considering we were wearing MC pants and boots. But the place was not air conditioned.

After lunch, we rode down to Beavertail State Park of Rick T. RI-Ride Fame. The view was beautiful, but a bit hazy. We didn't linger and got back on the road. The day was only going to get hotter. Gary took some pics at Beavertail.

Back over the Bridge westbound to 1 North - 4 North - 102 West/North. 102 is a long slog up to the RI-MA border in Uxbridge. A least we weren't on the highway so there was some shade. But yeah, it still got hot. Peak temperature I saw was 98. We both stayed hydrated and wore mesh jackets. I also had a cooling towel around my neck that dripped water down my chest and back. It helped.

From the border, it's another 45 minutes to my house, made worse by multiple slow pokes along the way. It was good to get home and into the AC. The ride home was 2.5 hours. Total mileage was 161.

We both agreed that we're done with 90+ rides this season.  ;D

Good report Tony. Good ride, good lunch, just a bit hot, but glad we got out to test out those new improved fuel pumps courtesy of Mother Honda.

I was just jumping on here to see if maybe you, Sherri, Gary and Deb wanted to take a ride Saturday or Sunday?
Sometimes you only get 2.7 seconds, make it count.

Sounds like you and Gary had a good day...  :cooldude:

Hey Paul. This weekend is busy. I'd love to take a ride with you on Saturday July 27th, if your free.  8)

Nothing on the books.

I never take the highway to the beach. Too unpredictable with all the 4wheel assholes out there. I've done rt12 to rt138 in CT and I"ve done rt169 to rt12 to rt138. All nice cool rides and no traffic. I normally go rt102 to rt2 to rt138 near URI, I had 3 days of that last week in Lake George and it sucked. Lots of Gatorade.  :drink:
