Texas Laws about LED lites

Can I run LED lites at  nite while  riding in the city , on the hwy and thru out the state on the Interstate ....  or will the DPS pull me over ? ......  and what colors can I use and not use ? Thanks Old Geezer

I ran from Friendswood south of Houston to Texarkana last year with my Blue LED's and a few Red ones too.
Passed several State/Local police with no problems other than a local that I thought was racing to pull me over and just wanted to see the lights.

Texas law says nothing but white or amber visible from the front, nothing but red running/brake lights and a white license plate light visable from the back, as well as you can have amber turn signals (but not rear amber running lights).

Nothing but red, amber, or white can be visable from the sides, red toward the rear, white/amber toward the front.

There's also language that anything distracting in the officer's estimation is prohibited.

All this is while in operation on a public trafficway. You can do anything you want when it's not moving.

Lots of folks do other than above and have no problems...

I've had red lights on my I/S for 4 years now and haven't had anybody  stop me . I also have two very small blue LEDs  facing forward and they are on all the time.  I live just northeast of Humble Tx.

I like your set up and your are for sure visible ..... Yea I have the fever to put some led's so I'm visible to those peckerwoods yaking on their cell phones .... I like the way the red lites stand out on the v-stacks .... real nice Cattman .... I'm thinking about using the red and blue on my 98 blue and cream Fat Lady .... Thanks Old Geezer

Alright, doggone it, now I hafta put this pic up again, I just shot recently.  Laws vary between states of what extras are prohibited.  I'm thinking CO law is pretty lenient - compared to what Dan wrote above (or below depending on your profile).  Basically it says anything goes except no red or blue lights visible from the centerline in front of the bike.   Well OK there are rules on how modulators work too - you can't have wig-wag lights for instance.  I turn on these lights and on multilanes I get a cluster of cars just behind on the sides, gawking at the lights.  Well at least they saw me.  Makes me worry though, about that old riding school saw that you tend to steer towards where you look.  Maybe not a good idea.  Oh well. 

Anyway, if you add colored lights, be sure to add a switch so you can shut them off for the grumpy LEO who might not let you ride on HIS road with your pretty lights.
