Riding motorcycles is a perishable skill.

For many years (even when gainfully employed), I rode about 10-12K a year (between two Interstates).  But that dropped off sharply the last 5-6 years or so.  Age, much work about the house and yard, and too hot and too cold.

The last month, since the temps have finally dropped, I've been going out 3 to 5 hours about every other day (retirement's grand).  And enjoying the hell out of myself.  And sharpening up the riding skills.  Had a young man pacing me today (1200 Triump) for about a half hour through moderate traffic (getting out to the horse country), and at a lite he pulled up and said "man you ride the piss out of that thing." 

"From time to time, I do.  When it's crowded, my fangs come out.  Out in the sticks, I like to take it easy."

When the light changed, I told him to lead off, and he said "no, I like watching you ride."   

Not bad for 71.

Coming to the FCR?

No sir, not this one.  

I'd like to attend more of these things, but I have no riding partner or anyone to share room expense with for most of them. 

'Not letting the old man in' is almost exactly how I feel about riding (and retaining youthful exuberance, and just plain fun).
