Would like to have a valk but...

Well that pretty much says it, but am a lil bit concerned about parts. The valks were/are an awesome bike. But with all this is mechanical over time they will wear down and out.
So what to do?
Right now my bike is an 05 Roadstar. I do most of my own work on it. This another super reliable bike. Not really much to do to maintain it.
So guys what do you all do for parts when you need em?

Buy two Valks...

They're inexpensive enough these days, buy two functional Valks, that way you've got a handy source for any unobtanium parts you might need...

I bought my 2001 for a very good price several years ago for the same reason. I gave it a complete service and new tires.
It's as nice as my 1999 and if I ever have trouble finding parts one of them will be the donor.

  Q U I T  procrastinating!  Buy a Valkyrie. there are parts when needed. Routine maintenance and care keeps them running. 
   I have bought 13 of them. I only part out a bike that is not repairable. Two of them were in fires. Two did not have titles. One I was able to get a title for.
  My silver/blue Interstate left Saturday to a Harley rider who was fed up with repairs.  It had 32422 miles on it. It was the cleanest bike (next to mine) I ever bought. 
  If you are looking for an Interstate , I have one in progress.

Valkyrie is a great motorcycle.  Mine is a keeper.  I've had to go to eBay for things.  The guys recommend owning two for a reason.  Some owners have parts stashed away.  And, not every Valkyrie that becomes available is good.  A man in my area got burned on a bad one.  

Choosing a motorcycle to ride for the next 10 years, I'd pick a recent Indian Chief.  Air cooled, belt drive, fuel injected.  Those features eliminate the causes of problems that Valkyrie owners often encounter.

I'm not aware of any Valks that have been put out to pasture due to parts not being available.

Maybe there is, but I'm not aware.

But thru new OEM, some aftermarket, some used parts sellers and genuine ingenuity,  most of what is needed is there.

Thing is, Valks don't go thru many parts.  Well, maybe tires.

Some parts you can't get from most dealerships. The Honda dealer near me has a knowledgeable staff and sometimes knows what to cross to a newer bike. Nar me is also Pinwall motorcycle salvage. There are other salvage yards also. Like others have stated E-bay, there are a couple of different groups on Facebook that sell Valkyrie parts. Bottom line I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Valkyrie if something happened to mine.

Like all used machinery, it's always a toss up between the low mile garage queen, and the high mile well maintained one.  The garage queen almost always looks better, but...

Always ask if they've kept a file of parts and service records and/or a log book of maintenance (I do).  You want that too.

Our longest rider is somewhere around 650K.

I'd want a bagger Tourer or Interstate over a Standard.

Not Valk specific, but just a general heads up, Pinwall shut down and liquidated all inventory late last year, they're no longer around, sadly.

YES.  If an experienced owner is available to look a bike over, it would be useful.  

My neighbor bought a Valkyrie that had been modified into a mystery bike.  Electrical, vacuum, fuel system, carbs, and exhaust were "modded".  He figured Seafoam and a good long ride would get it running right.  Sorry.  A dealer couldn't figure it out, either.  He sank a lot of money into it then parked it, forever.

        I am Extremely Familiar with the I/S he has fer sale as it is My former I/S! Taken me on a Lot of REALLY GOOD Rides and I Know there are a LOT of Good RIDES left in her! Over 55 M P H a bit- -and turn loose of the bars tracks straight and true. I've done a Lot of 500 mile days on her and some 600 mile days and a few 700 mile days! The ONLY reason I made that Difficult decision to replace Phatt Ghurl-my divorces were easier-was my left hip no longer likes holdin up an 800lb+ M/C no more. Had to git a trike! BUT I R Still in da wind!  RIDE SAFE.

Years ago I helped a Valk brother from over the pond purchase a Valk here in Ma.

He found it online somewhere, asked for help, I contacted him and sub-contracted my brother in law to check it out, as it was one town over from him.

I was in very good condition and I picked it up, brought it to NH to be tricked, picked it up and got it shipped to England.

He compensated me for my expenses and time and I got some parts he didn't want.

To the OP, there are many riders on this site that would help you in a second.

This I am sure of, if you get one Valk, you'll want to keep it and probably want to get two.

But, be warned up front, two will breed and you'll end up with more.   Don't ask me how I know..

The John Schmidt bike, pictured on top, is worth going out of your way for.  Mr. Schmidt was trusted to maintain sophisticated aircraft for the USAF.  That bike represents his skill and attention to detail.  I know him personally and he is not a cheapskate.

A 29 yr. bikes and rubber components are getting hard or soft depending of use/location. Presently have to go aftermarket for brake lines. Outside normal maintenance, fork seals last year, manifold o'rings 5 yrs. ago, rear #6204 bearing and the rear wheel dampeners will be replaced next rear tire change. Mine was kept in climate controlled shop its 1 st. 14 yrs. and still is. I see a lot Southern bikes aka warmer/humid climate exposure seems to be a tad harsher but letting them set long periods of time is not good for any bike. Luv this bike even working on it is easier than any bike I've owned.
