The Interstate gives  the true Milage ..
The STD and Tourers  do not have that capability ..

My '99 IS shows on the OD 202105 on the

Interstates  were  NOT made  in 97....
Interstate started  in 99  and ran through 01 ..

Fall of  98 was when it was started on the assembly line,

And just so you know, almost all Valk Interstates were made in 1999.

Only a few hundreds more were made in 2000 & 2001.

I used to have the numbers but not anymore.

Our Norway friend's old Valkyrie Genealogy (Dag) site had the numbers for all makes, models and colors.

Looks like Dag's Valkyrie site is down.  Did anyone happen to capture the color chart by years and model??   Always was a good site for background colors when someone was hunting.

i am located at the south end of lake simcoe, georgina ontario, so unless samatha stevens is your neighbour getting those usa rides to me will be a big to do.
i have a offer in on a 1999 gl1500cf and  got a bit spooked when i noticed it was from labrador and had a car tire for a back tire. the car tire concerns me cus it shows a strong tendency to frugality and makes me wonder if standard maintenance also lived in frugal land.  It does present with 54k on the odometer which is very pleasing and it has a wee  bit of chrome accents. we are just waiting for the snows to melt to conclude the transaction. very good to know that the odometer rolls past 99999 to 100000. wishing you all clear skys, warm weather, no traffic and no cops

No need to fear the CT on the rear of the Valkyrie.  I have just over 170k miles on CTs on my Valks and it was never about frugality for me.  I changed them at 10k miles whether they were worn or not, right along with the front tire and rear end maintenance.

Ditto on rear car tires on Valks.   

I've been running car tires on back of both my CF Interstates for some 15+ years, and not for frugality. 

Yes you get many more miles than bike tires, but you also get a tremendous improvement in traction, strength, durability and especially braking on a big heavy bike.  Living in Ontario (I grew up on a MI island on Lake Erie where I could see Ontario), car tires will also do much better in snow (if you do that sort of thing).

However, not just any 205 60 (what I run, but others run smaller ones) car tire will do, you want a more rounded edge profile tire for smoother transitions carving though turns and corners.  A very hard square profile is not a good choice. 

My current 205 60 Michelin Cross Climate 2's on both bikes are the best car tires I've ever run, and one bike with 10K miles on that tire show no wear of any kind I can see.  And to look at it, it does look a bit square in edge profile, but it is smooth riding in all corners and turns. 

But, they are not for everyone.

It depends not entirely upon how you ride but largely on where you ride.  Certain road surfaces cause more wear on tires than others.

I normally get twenty thousand or more on a front tire and fifteen or more on a rear, with rear not specifically made for motorcycle tires a good deal more.

For many years on 2 Interstates, I only get from 7-9K from any front tires.

I'm also not inclined to run them past when they are showing age and wear, even if there's a bit of tread left (often more on one side than the other).  They make me nervous. 

But I choose the stickiest soft compounds I can get for grip and safety, and those don't last.

I ever tried a deeper tread rear on front (140), reversed on the wheel, but it was no good at all.

So long as Metzler makes a front to fit, that's what I'll run.

Why do you change out the rear CT at 10K miles?

i get from 8k to 10k out of a front Metzler 888.  I live in the flatlands in South Texas, so the sides only get really used on my annual trip to Inzane. 
I change out the CT at 10k, because I have to pull it to service the rear end and would rather only do it once.  I don't want to pull the rear tire at 10k for service, then again whenever the CT is ready to be replaced.
My feeling is this:  We only have 2 tires and if either one of those fail while riding, catastrophic results can occur.  I don't ride tires that are even nearly worn out.
My $.01875 for what it is worth.

Jimmy, if you didn't read it in my thread on 'I need a new front tire', Metzler stopped making our Valk front tire size in the ME888.  The only front tire they make in our size now is the new CruiseTec.  And that's what I've ordered.  It may do a little better mileage-wise.  We'll see.

Good to know Jess.  I read that thread and was a bit disappointed.    I will need one later in the summer, after Inzane.  I like the ME tires.  Like Smokin' Joe says "they stick like sh!t on a baby blanket".
