Daylight Savings Time?

Just curious, I don't care which time is used, just leave it alone and quit changing it.

The way I see it is, if someone wants an hour more or less of daylight, adjust the time you get up or go to bed.

Why not go back to the way it was before time zones were established? I've read towns would set their own time based on the sun, so noon was really noon! It made the job of railroad conductors more challenging.

I'd say people who want DST all year long have never been to states like North Dakota in December.

When I was a working man, I missed an hour of work or showed up early a few times.  It was also helpful to not be commuting to or from work in the dark. 

In retirement, it really doesn't matter what time it is to me.

I'm more concerned with daylight, wind and how cold or hot it is.

I went out earlier, and it's too freaking cold and windy to work out there.

The other day I put two coats of stain sealer on a decent medium size wood kitchen table I pulled off the curb (on trash day) and threw on my deck as an all purpose work station (so it won't rot).  Except the wind blew like crazy for 2 days right after and now the whole top has sealed in dirt, crud, pine needles and leaf bits in it.  I should have checked the weather before doing it.  It's just a hard use tool, but it irritates me.  

My take on DST is "do what most of the people want" majority rules (or state by state), I don't care about it.

Otherwise, I'm with you Ron, set it one way or the other and leave it.  Anything that reduces human confusion is a good thing.

I don't believe going back to the old days is viable option for nationwide government or corporate entities.  If NY needed to do business with Omaha or Seattle and all those places determined their own time, basic communications would slow down dramatically.   What if Omaha, KC, OKC and Dallas were to all decide on different times.   I don't see that as a workable solution but, I'm no expert on any of this.   Just have an opinion and we all know what that's worth. 

I've traveled to ND and through much of the area you speak of, I have my doubts folks there really care much.   Again, that's just an opinion.


It appears that regardless of what else is chosen, leaving it as unchanging seems to be the popular choice.

As I previously stated, I don't care which (Daylight Savings or Standard) is chosen, just leave the damn thing alone after the decision is made.

Yeah, I realize this issue has come around twice a year for several decades but, it appears that now we have leadership that's willing to do something about it.

Back in the day, maybe 50's 60's Daylight Savings Time (DST) seemed like a good idea.  It allowed, so I was told, farmers to get home from their normal jobs and work their fields and serve their livestock.

Fast forward to 2000 (or so) and my employer (like many others) allowed its salaried workers to have sort of flexible work hours. 

We worked nine hours a day Monday - Thursday, with ever other Friday off.  We were also allowed to schedule our start times from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM.  We were given a half hour lunch break.

It you start work at 6:30 AM in the summer and get off at 4:00 PM that is almost the same as having DST.  So, how many folks work from home these days????   Same working hour changes would sort of apply to them.

As far as the hourly workers were concerned, most of those working in Nuclear Operations (In the Control Room and in the plant) and Nuclear Maintenance, worked 12 hour days.  I forget the way the days were worked out but they were at least three twelve hour days followed by maybe an eight hour day.  Again, it's been awhile and I was not in Nuclear Operations at the time.

Not the same as DST but more time off is a benefit.

DST was needed back then. Today it's just a thing and no longer needed in our current society.

Here in AZ, we don't use DST. The last thing we want in the summer is to have the sun stay up an hour later. It has been proven that many people don't go out in the evening till it gets dark. Restaurants were losing money, movie theaters too.

Oh the horror.

I don't really care what time it is.  But I have a lot of clocks in my house (nothing fancy or antique).

I put them all up when I did care what time it was, and it seemed wasteful to throw them away.

Now I have to go and change all of them (again).

   Just pick 1. Should NOT be that big a deal. Driving truck I'd go thru 3 or 4 time zones in as many days or a bit more. It really Never bother me but this twice a year kaka got old a longtime ago. Hadda adjust my time to wherever in the hell I wuz! Being retiredI could actually care less but pick 1 anyone! RIDE SAFE.

My thought also but compromise probability, nah. Regardless the timezone, one part of it will be unhappy and usually the border line residents. I don't like 10:00 pm sunsets that's for sure.

Regardless of where you go, take and post a few pictures.   That may inspire others (me) to go also.

Well, that wouldn't be true in my home.  The love of my life wants clocks in every room.   Since that's what she wants, she gets to change all those clocks.  I won't touch them.   It's not changing the clocks that frustrates me (she does it), it's the change to everything that is related to that change of time.  

Based on the poll here, it's very evident that the vast majority would like the time to stay constant and not change.   Some want DST, others want Standard.   I really don't care which way it goes, changing the time is non-sense to me.

My new(ish) 2500 Dodge Van came with a bunch of manuals, which I've perused.

Setting the electronic dash display (press this, twist that, click one of the 4 stalks up, down and sideways) is a PITA and a mystery to me, and I am unwilling to spend the time figuring it out.  If there was a class I could take, I might do it.  So once a year when I go into the dealer, I get them to set my clock for me (and it will be an hour off shortly).  

Of the 27 choices in the 'constant' display, I like the current and average fuel economy, which can be decent in a 6 speed trans, and if I get to lead-footing it, it shows my current fuel economy plummeting and reminds me to knock it off.   (as do the cops on the side of the road)

I only use cruise control when on freeways, and that's only a few times a year, and every time I want to use it, it takes me 3-4 minutes of swerving around not looking where I'm going to figure it out gain.

All that crap requires a co-pilot to operate it while the driver watches the road.

Twice a year, my ever loving spouse gets the honor of changing the clock in my trucks and my Solstice, I simply don't care now that I'm retired and use my phone for all those things from navigation through all those other things to include texts, phone and whatever else.

Helicopters are supposed to be some of the most difficult things to operate in existence.  And many otherwise fit and intelligent men are unable to do it.  Nonetheless, if I had a wife to do it for me, that's how I'd go too.
