Anyone ever use high mileage oil in their Valk?

My Wing motor has a bit under 68k and I don't know its maintenance history. I do know the high mileage type oil has different(extra?) additives so wondering if it might do a number on the clutch. The Amsoil version is blank in the bottom half of the circle where it often will state "energy conserving" on regular oils. Anyone have experience with it...opinions, etc.?

stay with a good diesel oil that meets Ford specification WSS-M2C171-F1, which requires higher levels of zinc and phosphorus. All others will be below 1000 ppm.

Hi my friend, been a while since we've talked direct. Re. modifiers, I always look at that little circle usually on the back and watch for anything entered there such as the "energy conserving" comment usually seen in the bottom half. This particular oil had nothing listed there...i.e., was blank. But as I mentioned, it's the extended mileage version which I know does have extra junk added. That's what I was questioning, it apparently still isn't ok for our clutches.

PS: What does your experience tell you re. diesel oil weight?  For non-diesel I usually go with 10W30...or 40, determined by availability at the time.

from a post of mine. the EPA changed oil specs a few yrs ago, which caused Ford to come out with their own spec.
I like 15w40 oil as the best to use. Rotella T5 is a nice semi-synthetic that works very well, flows better at cold starts.

My post. since I posted this even JASO changed the specs of motorcycle oil to have lower levels of zinc and phosphorus all to protect the cat convertors.

JASO spec'd motorcycle oil are basically the same specs as heavy-duty diesel oil standards.
JASO does not test oils, manufactures pay a fee to JASO and state their oil meets the specs.

I've heard that some high mileage oils contain a seal-sweller additive.

Valkyries aren't considered high mileage until at least a million miles.

I've only seen "high mileage" on car oils but I'd say its a waste in a Valk/GW's or any vehicle as long as its serviced properly. BTW 68,000 is barely broke in on these motors. Stay with what you're using.
The only issue I have had with oil was with T6 after the EPA changes to diesel in 2017 thus ended up using Mobil 1 after 3,000 mi. breakdown of Valvoline T4 dino. It sucked really bad.

Good to know.  I used MObil-1 in Ole Blue that had ~190k on it when wrecked.  I now use Rotella T6, since that is what was used for most of its life.

Picked up a gallon of 15w40 Rotella T5 today, will put it in when it warms up around here. With temps in the 30's & 40's I don't work in the garage. Supposed to get into the 50's & 60's by end of the week so maybe I can do some preliminary work/cleaning on Wing motor prior to install. Had a little dusting of snow last night, I haven't heard when they've scheduled Spring to hit but sure hope it's nice out that one day. Summer seems to hit a couple days in late July or early August. Lovely weather we have in this dump.

My definition of high mileage is going from the normal 10-40 to the heavier 20-50. I use Mobile 1 V-Twin oil.  I have almost 200,000 miles on the cobra Bike and when I switched to 20-50 the transmission noise was markedly less. I have been using it 4 or five years now and and very happy with the change

The only oil I ever used that (very) noticeably quieted the Valk drive train was Amsoil 10-40 MC oil.

But I could not justify continuing to spend $16 a quart for it.

As much as I liked the quieter drive train with Amsoil, I always have my radio turned up anyway, and that's a lot cheaper than that oil.   

And I always wear ear plugs riding now (not for exhaust, but for wind roar), to protect what hearing I have left.

So with the ear plugs and radio going, there's no drive train noise at all.

I buy Rotella T4 in the 5 gallon pail when on sale.

I enjoy changing oil. Makes this old guy happy.
