clutch noise when sitting in neutral

kind of a grinding noise .. gone with clutch pulled ...just got the bike today and 2,500 km road trip home in the morning....I can't remember if my last one did it

All my Hondas since 1969 have made that same noise.

When the tranny gears are rotating, they make noise due to them being crosscut gears.

Same thing with my Interstate. It doesn't do it when I first start up the bike, but I notice it after I've been riding for a while. Went for a long ride yesterday and definitely noticed it when I got home.

I found a good thread from years ago that addresses gear whine and oil. HayHauler recommended switching to a heavier weight Mobil 1 20W50 synthetic oil. I currently use Mobil 1 10W40. I think I'm going to try the 20W50 and see if it helps.

20w 50 is a good oil if you live in the South, where it doesn't get too cold.  Most of the time, here in the Houston area, my oil is at the 50w due to the hot temps.
I am currently running Rotella T6 10W40.  Base oils change over time and the same oil you have used for years, just might be different than it was 20 years ago.

Thanks folks, figured it was just a stock growl lol - now to address the misrepresented bald tires and lack of brakes! 1,50 is a lot of miles (riding my latest purchase home) when you've next to no brakes, tires are well into the wear bars, and you have a deadline to get home LOL - challenge accepted, accomplished, and not being repeated any time soon 

did I mention having to travers the Rockies like this?  LOL
