Verifying age for Australia's new Social Media Law for those under 16 years of age is an interesting option.   Will it work?   Only time will tell.

So does Texas, and I gather a lot of other states.

Mixed on the ban. Don't like government meddling, that should be the parent's job, but the parents obviously aren't doing it.

Who decides what's a social media and what's not? The lines are getting blurred. Would the VRCC forum be considered a "social media" for instance?

We keep a pretty tight leash on the (now 14 year old) triplets computer and phone usage, although we're getting close to allowing them onto more sites. Kinda funny they have almost zero interest in Facebook, that's just for old folks now.

Well, I do agree. It's a tough job, I also agree that generally speaking most parents aren't taking that to task. There are a lot of other ways that parents are failing their children in my humble opinion. I really don't have a problem with under 16 being banned from social media, but defining that could also be an issue verifying the age is also another issue. And then there's also the opportunity for under 16 to still go on the dark web and find things that we really don't want them to find.
