Bringing the 97 back to life

Parts are slowly showing up for the bike. Got the timing belts and 4 degree trigger wheel installed today. Also installed new spark plugs. Hoping to do the forks maybe Wednesday or Thursday. Depends on the mail service. Will be late this week or early next week before all my carb parts are in. Started taking them apart and found I needed to order more parts for it. Found a lot of stuff that someone in the past had added to it. Just wouldn't believe what I have found so far. They had no business with this bike. Also got it desmogged. They had put a large spring from one carb bank to the other side. Left open vacuum off #5 intake. Several loose bolts I have found. Engine hanger on backward. At least the gas tank looked brand new inside it. But she will purr again before long.

Up dating my work on my 1997 Valkyrie Tourer. Got both forks rebuilt, finished up the de smog. Pulled, checked and serviced the rear end. Still got to change oil in the rear end. Working on carbs now. Finally got my float needles in from Partzilla and wouldn't you know my package only had 5 needles in it. Their sending me another one so firing her up will be later than planned. Oh well. Still got to change oil and change out coolant. Fan sensor on lower left side is broke and new one to arrive any day. Also the bike has a K&N filter in it. Got to clean and service it also. The carbs has been into in the past. Found 1 so far slow jet with the top broke off. Was able to remove with small vice grips. Hoping this is the last one I run across. Got 3 of them rebuilt so far and 3 to go. Hoping to fire her up before January 1st. Will add a new picture on next post.

I agree on the K&N air filter. One of the used Valks I bought had one and I was not overly impressed with it.

Swapped to a OEM, which do last much longer than what service manual states, depending on riding conditions.

The need for pics is large with this post.

I have already ordered a air filter for it. The previous owner had also done the Ragnar cut on the exhaust. Not crazy about that. But with the stock air filter and front baffles still in place I can run the stock jets. I might try and find me a set that hasn't been butchered up.

I did a Ragnar cut repair on one of my bikes and am very happy with the results.  Basically putting 3 - 1 inch x 12 inch long perforated pipes, strapped together and mounted in the cut pipe.  Gives her a low grumble at idle and low rpm and a awesome roar at WFO.
