Damaged in shipping

Got my carb rack back today...damaged in shipping.

No major injuries I guess...but the carb caps are dented on 2 of them and a scrape on the 3rd.  Ugh..

I'd say replace them as they are the vacuum chamber for the CV carb system to function properly and besides they look bad obviously. Damn it anyway. Had similar episode buying a small freezer from Home Depot. Took 3 units before they got one that haven't been speared with fork lift. Frustrating for sure. This damage appears to before shipping damage but...

Yeah, I definitely will replace. My bike only has 9000 miles. I wouldn't dream riding it with dented carb caps LOL.  The person that worked on the carbs says he knows someone that may have some. I know it's not his fault, but it was like a gut punch when I opened the box to look at my freshly refurbished car carburetor rack.

The metal piece is just decorative, there is a plastic piece under that I would be concerned about though.

Yeah I took them off already and the plastic underneath seems fine.

Could not find your location.  The vacuum seal is below the covers.  I would be more concerned about the impact damage. It takes a lot of force to do that much damage.  Contact your builder and let him know what the shipper did.  You may have internal damage.

I of course let the builder know what happened during shipping, he is currently searching for 3 fresh caps and as of  past two days has not found any yet.  I also have looked myself with no luck until asking here on this forum. I would be interested in 3 new/unblemished caps if he isn't able to make it right pretty soon.  I removed the caps and the plastic caps underneath seem fine. Once I get the cap then I will start to put the bike back together. Thank you da prez for the reply and offering fresh caps....i jus may need them.

You can put everything together while you wait just to make sure everything runs correctly. The dented cap won't make any performance difference.

 Yes..I know.  I'm just still reeling from the gut punch I took when I opened the box.  Just don't want to proceed until have 3 fresh caps.  Once I put them on I'll feel a lot better, feeling down over it still. It doesn't look like anything else is damaged.  Fingers crossed.  Riding weather is still 3 months away.

I would be more concerned about the impact damage. It takes a lot of force to do that much damage.

A hit like that could have slightly damaged any of the structure of the carb attachment pieces and sync system.

If I was in that situation, I would visually inspect every piece, using a straight edge where I could and if no damage was discovered, install the carbs and do a carb sync.

At the least, I would do a bench sync.

The caps can be installed any time and if there's other damage, I'd want to know now, as opposed to when riding season starts.

Hopefully no other damage will be discovered, but I'd have a hard time sleeping, thinking about the "IF"

FWIW those caps are very easily dented.

I damaged mine by having the rack upside down on a work bench.

Is the shipping box all caved in and broken through in multiple places? It seems as if shipping damage wouldn't be on the edges of the caps but in the middle. That looks like someone beat them up with a piece of pipe.  If the box is damaged enough to cause that, the shipper is responsible,, otherwise the person you sent them to did it. did they send them to you in an empty box with out being protected?
I'm getting mad.
