I have decided to keep my 2003 Valkyrie Standard for a few more years.

Several years ago I had an issue with the fuel petcock and shifting to "reserve ".  So, I decided that now was a good time to replace the petcock.

I found one (complete unit) on Partzilla.  I was going to order that and also include the "drain tube clip" and the "fuel line".  Are there any other parts I should include to make this replacement a success?

Thanks.

Check all the hoses. If feeling brittle , replace.  I only use OEM petcock and only OEM kits.    Also install   a new filter on top of the petcock.

If you want to you can also use Honda part number 16950-mal-603. It works just like the stock one but eliminates the vacuum shut off.

the Honda fuel screen replacement is not the same as the original that came with our Valkyries. the new one has a smaller screen area for the main tank and a larger screen area for the reserve tank.

I sent the two new ones I bought back for a refund.

I feel this is a good alternative, but you need to train yourself to shut the gas off at EVERY stop.

Not doing so invites hydro lock.

Then there the theory there's enough gas in the lines to cause hydro lock, but with the petcock off, vacuum might prevent the lines from draining.

I did have a hydro lock situation while having lunch one day, so short time is all that's needed.

Yeah I also have an electric fuel shut off along with the non vacuum petcock for a little added protection. I would assume a stuck open float would be the cause of hydrolock more than anything else though but what ever you can do to help prevent it, why not do it.

Looking forward to hear if the OEM Valkyrie petcock is available. I was not able to source one a few months ago. Ended up with the alternative non-vacuum unit mentioned above. Working well so far.
