IS helmet locks

I'm adding an IS trunk to my tourer. I pulled the lock out of the trunk to see if a local locksmith can re-key it. I was going to see if they can do the same for the two helmet locks. I can't see how to remove the helmet locks from the trunk frame. Does anyone know. I reviewed the Honda Direct Line diagrams and it shows some sort of bolt. Mine looks like the end of a rivot.

Not that my experience holds water, but I took my trunk lock cylinder in for re-keying and was informed that this particular lock could not be re-keyed without damaging it (destroying it).

I don't know about re-keying the helmet locks. But a visegrip will remove the tamper proof assembly from the trunk frame.

If the lock smith can re-key it to the trunk lock, that same key should fit the helmet lock. Normally there is only one key on the Valk that unlock or lock everything. In your case the trunk and the attachments hopefully came from the same bike. The alternative is to have the trunk lock reset to the ignition key of your bike, that way you won't have two sets of keys. Good Luck.

Center punch the rivet heads. Then remove the heads by drilling them away with the appropriately sized bit.

They are held on with tamper proof screws, not rivets, you can drill them out like rivets but you will not be able to remount them.

Take your favorite channel locks or vise grips and grip the screw head and turn counter clockwise.  I removed mine that way and you can too but it is a difficult task as they are not made to be removed.

Lots of luck rekeying the locks. Now, if you can get the number off the ign switch for the bike they came off you can have a key made.

I have the key for the trunk and helmet locks. I'm just trying to see if I can get them changed to match my bike. If not that is ok.

Instead of taking the locks off cant you take the support bracket off with the locks still attached?

When I did my trunk install, I had the trunk keyed to the bike, no-go with the helmet locks.  Didn't want another key on my ring, so I just used velcro to store the key in the trunk

I replaced the screws with allen headed bolts.

Do people steal helmets?  ??? When I did wear them, i'd leave them on the seat or if it was windy, on the ground next to the bike. Never had a problem.

Between the cost of a good helmet, and the cost of a good headset, you could be at $500.00.

I dropped the trunk core and helmet locks, still attached to the trunk frame, at a local locksmith yesterday. They have a good reputation in the area. I said no hurry. They called this morning and said all the locks were re-keyed to match my bike. He did need to remove the helmet locks from the frame. He locked onto that special bolt and they loosen up and was able to reuse the bolt.
