VRCC Temp board.

So, the VRCC server was hacked.  We were planning to migrate to a new server after InZane, but this hack has forced our hand and we have to do it now.  We're going to try to wait until Monday.

This is a huge job, so it could take awhile, and the site will be inaccessible while it's going on.  Because the server and forum are outdated, there is a good chance that the message board will have to be replaced as well.  If so, we will attempt to restore the old forum content, but we can't make any promises.

In the meantime, Serk has let us use space on his host for a temporary message board.  It's active now and you can sign up now, but as of sometime Monday, it will be the only option for at least a couple of days.  This temp board will be disabled once our message board update is complete.

We'll do everything possible to bring over as much of the current forum as we can, but as always with such a complex project as this if there's anything special you want or need, good idea to save a copy local if you can, just to be safe.


Edit to add - I researched the bookmarks a little more, looks like that was an addon to the forum and not part of the stock SMF setup. Again we'll do as much as we can to save such things but there's a chance bookmarks will be lost, save a local copy of anything important.

To be clear, Monday is when the migration starts, not necessarily when it ends... (Thus the temp/backup forum, so we can all stay in touch until this one is migrated and ready for prime time.)

I  have  been through many Migrations  .
On  a few  sites. Some  as  a  MOD.
Some  went with out  a  hitch, and  some well, Had  to fully start from scratch all over again.
     
I remember the switch we made here umpteen years ago, and the photo hosting sites we lost along the way.  Along with some  key info on rebuilds...

    There are two Good Guys I Truly MISS!  I consider myself Fortunate to have met both of them and then had a minor part in helping Wayne on his Final journey. RIDE SAFE.

I ask because I understand you can easily communicate that using the VRCC Temp Board but I suspect that there are several "members" who may not see the changes being planned or may not want to use the temp board.

The URL to the forum, or at the very least the URL (Website address) to the main VRCC page shouldn't change.

I signed up, was a rather easy experience except the password part.

Apparently the site is sensitive.

I typed in my chosen password, "One Hung Stud".

That password was rejected!

Then I got the response/explanation.

Having been involved with various migrations (none of them BBS's), some of which went super smooth and others - not quite so much - this looks like things migrated pretty well.

I've been busy enough that I noticed it wasn't working any more, but too busy (and no contacts saved) that I didn't say anything.

We have been engaged in a sordid tale of home improvement - had the basement cleaned out, then got it waterproofed, then refinished, and got the exterior painted. June 1st we start getting the interior redecorated (mostly stripping wallpaper / painting), and maybe some more basement finishing. We're still considering the rest of the basement. Also need to clean out garage / attic, and possibly putting HVAC in attic.

Just a quick update - the temporary VRCC forum has been decommissioned and a redirect to this one if someone goes to that URL. I'll give it a while then take the redirect out as well...
