After I broke my leg in March I pretty gave up on making it to Eureka Springs this year. At 73 my injuries don't heal as fast as they used to. I also had an obligation on the morning of June 3rd I couldn't miss.

But my appointment was done by mid morning, and my leg has been feeling pretty good, so just before noon I packed up a bike and hit the road. I made it from Colorado to Hays, Kansas Wednesday evening and figured the final 450 miles would be easy if I hit the road early.

The weather wasn't cooperating and I woke up to a downpour. It looked like it would move out in a few hours but I wanted to make it to Eureka Springs in time for the evening banquet. So I moved the bike under the hotel canopy, dried it off, packed up, and hit the road. The rain began letting up south of Salina and the ride through back roads of SE Kansas was great. I made it to the hotel around 5 and planned on staying at one of the nearby hotels. But when I called the front desk asking for a recommendation, they had one room left, a big expensive suite.

I made it to the banquet at the very last minute. If there had been an award for the latest arrival I'd have won it. I didn't get to talk with some of the people I usually see, but it ended up being a nice time and a great ride.

Glad you made it, hate we missed a chance to chat! (Or did we? Honestly it kinda all becomes a blur by Thursday!)

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

Actually I spent as much time talking with the Miata club guys as Valk riders. Most of them were older (close to my age) and not surprisingly, every one I talked with had ridden motorcycles. We talked about how many riders reach a point where they switch from 2 wheels to 3 or more for the stability.

Personally, if I get to that point I'd lean towards switching to a 2 seat convertible. The cornering is better than a trike, and having a top to protect you from the rain has some appeal. I would have liked one as I rode through that Kansas downpour Thursday morning!

Well that sez it all-you Iz a RIDER! I've switched to a trike as the ol left hip no like bringin 800 lbs+ up offin the side stand or holdin it up a Long traffic lights. And at 81 while I still do RIDE I dom't ride as much as I used ta did. I'd also put it another way fer what ya did-Dedication!  :cooldude:  RIDE SAFE.
