Mama and I had lunch today at Jersey Mike's.  The table next to us was occupied by a little girl, her mother and her grandmother.  I approached the table and showed a coin to the mother.

"May I give this to your little girl?"

"Sure."

"I keep some of these in my pocket in case I see and children who make me smile.  You make me smile."

"Look!  You have a treasure.  Tell him thank you.  Is that a dollar coin?"

"Yes, and it's a Sacajawea."

"We know Sacajawea.  She was in our story videos.  Can you say Sacajawea?"

"Sacajawea."

"You are a very smart young lady."

When they finished and were getting ready to leave the little girl came over to thank me again.  Mama told me she overheard the mother asking, "Can you go over and give that old man a hug?"

Mama found it quite humorous.  She said it was the first time she'd heard someone call me that in public.

I was less amused but then it what I am.

Get used to it buddy! ;D  I was standing line in Culvers, a nice but expensive drive-thru, when a woman in front turned to me and said "go ahead sir, age before beauty." I thanked her and stepped up, suddenly I hear what sounded like a slap. I turned around, she looked PO'd and everyone around us were laughing except the husband who had his hand on his cheek. I'll bet I know what he said! ;D

I remember the first time someone at the register gave me the senior citizen discount.  I knew what the total should have been and was surprised when it was less.  I questioned it and the attendant said I gave you the senior discount.  I told them I was not old enough for that just charge me full price.  I was probably around 50 at the time.  Now I always ask for it.....

While doing my Part Time gig at Home Depot, I was recognized for good customer service by a customer that ID'd me "the ELDERLY GENTLEMAN THAT WORKS IN DOORS AND WINDOWS".
