My touch screen has gone screwy all of a sudden.  You touch one letter it comes up another letter.  If you touch "back" to erase the wrong letter it just keeps printing more letters.

Basically, the touch screen is all but unresponsive so the unit is all but unprogramable.

Has anyone had this problem?  Got any solutions?  I am calling tech support in the morning.

Thanks

Yup... Had the exact same problem, the touch screen is busted.

You can try a recalibration, which tech support will prolly have you try. I think you turn it off, then hold the power button for like a minute until it asks for you to re-calibrate the touch screen (Tells you where to touch, and you touch where it tells you to). That didn't help mine, had to send it back.

First time this happened I was outta warranty, but Garmin replaced it for free (They sent me a totally different unit from the one I sent them (Was kinda nice, the replacement had updated maps too!).

Then it happened like a year or two later, they replaced it again, but this time they charged me, I think $100 or so, and sent me another new unit...

Don't bother trying to e-mail tech support, that was useless, but once I got a person on the phone, they were very helpful and took care of me quickly both times.

Mine did that last summer, and recalibrating it has helped.  It still sometimes asks me if I really want to delete all user data, but so far it has believed me when I said NO.

I'm trying to keep it hanging on till this fall, then I'll feel I've gotten my money's worth out of it.  It'll be three years old in June.

I also had a touch screen issue and I contacted Garmin and they gave me a new one free, even though it was out of warranty. I have had them for about 5 years and they have served me well.  Once in a great while it will do something goofy but I reset it and then it is OK. From what I recall, most everything that I own that has some kind of processor in it had glitched on me. Maybe the processor gets confused, I sure most people experience this with there computers, you just reset. I think most manufactures expect this, that is why most electronics have reset buttons or sequence on them. Your right about emailing tech support, it is useless, you got to talk to a Rep.

No love from Garmin on this one.  Gotta send it in and 150.00 repair cost.

Oh well....

A little advice.  I think I know what caused the problem.  I accidently left the unit in my truck glove compartment for a few days in sub freezing weather.  Never seemed the same.

I lost a high dollar depth-fish finder on my boat for the same reason ...I left it on the boat in the garage with several nights of freezing temps . I sent it back to the mfg. however they claimed I could buy a new one for close to repair cost. Thats what I did I bought a new one best I can remember that little deal cost me around $650.00  :-\
