Who here is running Nitrogen in there bike tires? Have you noticed an increase in tire life for those who are? I was told I could get half again as much tire life on wear with going to Nitrogen over shop air.

I assume that was from someone trying to sell you nitrogen?  I believe proper monitoring and adjustment of tire pressure will yield better tire wear.  Furthermore, should you need to add 'pressurizing gas', plain old 'air' (which is nearly 80% nitrogen) is available anywhere on the road.

SgtBunny

I run nitrogen but not long enough to tell a difference.

A friend of mine has ran nitrogen for years and found that his tires wear better.  No more of the pressure changes that occur from the moisture being heated as you go down the road.  That is something checking your tire pressure everyday cannot fix.

While many people will run their mouth about air being mostly nitrogen, they forget that the main reason that tires change their inflation level is due to the moisture content in air expanding and contracting with heat and cold.  Nitrogen filled tires are much drier then air filled ones.

and if you do need to add air due to a problem, regular air is fine...you just need to remember that you have now diluted your nitrogen concentration by a small amount.

Never use Dyna Beads if you put N2 in your tires.
It takes all the bounce out of them.  They Suffocate.

Lee if you look up top of where you typed they are right there just click on the one you want where you want it and about the Dyna Beads  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

So if I want the dryness of nitrogen without the cost, all I have to do is mount and fill my tires with regular air in the middle of winter when it's -30° and the absolute (not relative) humidity is nearly zero!

 Lee,

:) = Dyna bead in ambient air filled tire
:uglystupid2: = Dyna bead in nitrogen filled tire

So you guys saying I can't use the dyna beads if I put nitrogen in my tires? If so glad I found this out now rather than after I paid for the nitrogen.

SgtBunny

No, they are joking.

Dynabeads and Nitrogen is the best combo.

Wait 'til after a straight week or so of -40,  it's the Alberta Advantage :cooldude:
