Hey All,

I am having a vibration when accelerating. ('99 Standard.) It happens in 5th gear when twisting the throttle between 45 mph and 60 mph.  Seem to have OK torque. I don't remember it being this severe last year. May just be that this has been a long Kansas City winter and I just don't remember.

I did just have a local dealer do a rear tire change and he told me that my rear splines are showing signs of wear and should be replaced at the next tire change. Any advice is appreciated.

5th gear 45-60mph vibrations is normal on the valks.  It is called lugging the motor.  Downshift a gear or two and get the bike up in the usable range.

As for your splines...how many miles are on the bike?  Has the dealer always greased the splines when they had it apart?  I have 66k on my bike on the original splines and they look good.

Thanks Joe.

I bought the bike last year. Not sure of what was done to it before that. Has right at 39000 miles. I put just over 10k on her last year.

If the dealer that replaced your rear tire did not lube the splines, you should not let him do any maintenance on your bike.

The dealer that did the tire change for me went through the steps he took and they were exactly what everyone on this group recommends. It appears that the necessary steps were not taken by the previous owner. I have hesitated to dive into the rear drive on all my bikes. Not sure why. Scares me. Now I guess I should go ahead and look for the parts to replace the splines.
