Wierd sound at 'start-up'

The last two outings I've noticed that after riding for a while (hot motor) when starting the Valk after a quick stop, there's a weird "clap" (loud click) when I engage the starter. It's starts up immediately as always, but there's the weird sound at the touch of the starter button. When the bike is 'cold', or after a longer stop, it sounds normal. . . Should I be concerned? Starter going bad? Thanks for any suggestions and/or help. I'm currently in Florida and only planned another ride or two before trailering it home. . .  where I can look it over ("tools are where your heart really is")

When they're hot, they start up so fast that the engine spins away from the starter gears. When cold, the starter has more laboring to do. Not a problem: mine does that too.

I've had the bike 9 years. . . .  it's a 'new' sound. Weird. . .

Mine does the same thing.  Just barely have to touch the starter button and she fires.  I hear the small pop too, but I think it is like Sandy said, the engine spins away from the starter gears so quick that it makes a slight noise.
