fuel consumption

My friend in Thailand got problem with is valk.What can cause big fuel consuption, he said that he take 2.5 gal.for 60 mil. at a speed of 60mph. My 2000 i/s is much better then that.Thank you.    Boubou vrcc 15101

Depending on how these bikes are ridden they can be very thirsty..  I have gotten as low as 17 MPG with my 1999 IS.

My fuel consumption seems to have gone up with the addition of ethanol in the last few years. My 99 tourer used to hit reserve at 125-135 and now it is 110-120. Don't know if Thailand is going the same way with additives.

Your friend should check /replace his air filter.  Also check for vacume leaks in the tubes and tighten the clamps on the rubber connecting boots. I would check the condition of the plugs, one of them may be misfiring. Some carb/fuel system cleaner in the gas will help clean gunk that may be affecting the carburators. Ethanol will reduce gas mileage, it will also gum up the carbs.
