Wheels interchangeability

I have read a lot through the tech archives about the different rotor wheel combos...Was going to get a set of spare wheels off a totalled bike..my final observe is/ as long as the wheels have their orig. rotors with them..they should fit all --97-03--I/S and Standard  concure?? Is there a sure fire way to ID the wheels I want to buy?? Thanks  In Adavance again for the great board of knowledge here... Happy Easter Sunday!....

As long as the rotors match the wheels//the axles /inner spacers all interchange?

Yes they are all the same inner spacer and axle size all the same I think some where polished some not. I have a 99 IS and had to change out rear rotors and use a later model rotor has to shim it no problem since...

All the wheels interchange. The difference is the rotors. In 2000 there was a change in the rotor design. If you want to swap rotors, then you need the rear brake caliper bracket too. If you swap rotors without the bracket, there's a "fix" by using a flat washer under the rotor when you mount it up to the wheel. I've not done this and don't know the proper thickness of the washer to use.

I thought if you used the rotor off your bike, then you could mount it to any wheel?

IE 97 std, put a 2001 IS wheel on the 97, just take your rotor off the 97 wheel, and mount it on the 01? Then you do not have to worry about shimming up the rotor.

The one thing to remember is that the 2001-03 wheels are slightly different. They are polished and clear coated, but they also have a raised and rougher portion behind the rotors.

These are the wheels I installed on my 99I/S. I was forced to use the rotors that were stock to the bike because the wheels had not rotors when I purchased them from Pinwall.  No problems thus far and it stops just fine. I forgot which year the wheel were, glad you mentioned it. These wheel look almost chrome and are easy to clean.
