Key on power source for lights.

I put some night time "critter lights" on Kim's Valk a few weeks ago & I wired them straight to the battery with a relay & a handlebar mounted switch. They will come on with the key off. I'm not happy with this arrangement & I want to change it.
What wire {or where} should I tap into for a key on power source? I want to have the driving lights totally independent of the headlamp. I would look at where I tapped into on my Valk as I have forgotten how I did it but I don't want tear it apart to look. 
I'm a bit electrically challenged.

Under the right side cover, there should be a keyed hook-up under clear plastic sheathing. One connector is key hot and the other is for ground.

If you run the hot relay trigger wire to the blue wire with white stripe in the headlight then the lights will turn off when the start button is pushed.

Ignore the question marks, the auxiliary connector (on when key is on) is circled as indicated.

Get them just about anywhere, got mine at a marine shop. Attach a relay and the auxiliary fuse strip to a piece of plastic and have the relay attached to the Accessory connections circled in the above picture. The relay triggers when you turn on the key, which in turn makes the aux. strip hot. Run the wires from there to the running light switch. To feed the strip, just run a fused line from the battery to the relay and from the relay to the aux. strip. If you need some input on how, give me a shout or email.

Forgot to add....to mount the whole thing I just drilled a couple holes in the top of the plastic I mounted it all on and used some zip ties and hung it on the wire bundle at the top.

John if I add anymore accessories I will be adding a new power strip for sure! I think we have all the things we need now added to our Valks. Car horns & critter lights, good enough for now. No tunes for our Valks. Kim doesn't need any distractions & I just sing to myself!

Been busy working on other people's bikes except mine. Have some major changes coming for mine, will take a while to install. I'll be along before too many more weeks.

Re. your electric hook you just did, I'm curious just how you did it. Hope you don't have the accessory leads powering them, not made for the load.

More mods to your Valk, John? 
You already have the trickest Valkyrie on the planet!!!

I used the stock accessory wires to trip the relay & fused 12 volts straight from the battery to power the lights through the relay. I had a cheesy shared ground set up on the lamps before, chucked that for a individual ground on each light. The bad ground was giving me fits. 

Again, I'm such a dork on electrical issues. 
Did I mention how much I appreciate this board & the good folks who populate it?
