i/s oil filter

when i have gone to the auto store and asked plus reviewed the books myself, it appears the i/s is a different filter than the other valks.  I would like to have a chrome one, but am worrie dabout which brand/# i should use based on the above.  any thoughts?

It is my understanding that ALL Honda engines can use the same filter. The only difference is the filter length (which I don't believe is an issue for the I/S). The automotive filters are an inch or two longer than the MC version, but, otherwise work equally well and are usually much cheaper. My local auto dealer runs filter specials every now & then: 6 for $30; works for me since we've got a Civic, an Accord and the Valkyrie.

I've been running the walmart ST6607 for over 100k on my bikes.I think good oil and changing every 5k is a key to long engine life.

the GL1800 is using a shorter filter due to fairing interference, although I have used the longer one used by the valkyrie and GL1500.
So due to the GL1800 it seams all of the honda filters are now being made shorter. I have even found that the ST3593A and Purolator PL14459 are also shorter now but still larger in Dia than stock. The larger Dia ones are all I use, more filtration area and longer life.

I always paint my filters silver to match the engine.

I use a Mobil-1 (M-110) filter, it is longer than most filters and doesn't interfere with anything. My chrome oil filter cover is a little short, but that is the extent of any issue. Those filters are the same for any year Valkyrie. When you go to the dealer, they go through that what year, what model crap, pay not attention to it.

I think the KEY question here for those of you running an "alternative" filter is:

Will a cut off MGD can still fit over it?

Not the ST3593A!    hoser It adds a little more oil capacity, though.
