Backward Tire

I'm ready for a front tire now. I called the local tire man and asked him about this backwards non radial tire thing. He said someone is going to get killed. He said he would sell me one but wouln't put it on my bike. I'm still considering going this route but was wonder how the tires are doing.

I am putting my Bridgestone (150-70-17) on tomorrow and will let you know in a week or two about how it performs. I am not looking for peg dragging performance, I want as much rubber as I can get for a trip of 8-10k  to Alaska next month.

Well I suspect it will drag 'em if you like. My Kenda Bias Rear 150/70-17 holds tight at 80mph dragging 'em in the sweepers. That's a lot more force then dragging at 35 - 45 mph.

I'm just not fond of the speedometer running incrementally higher, but the GPS helps with that.

Rode through Kouts last Thursday.  Enjoyed the hills and twisties.

I really can't say a lot because Greenwood is not much better, only closer to better roads.

looks like a 90/10 dual sport tire with those deep tread blocks. Is it noisey, and like a rumble strip in the curves?  I like the look of that tire

I've been hearing it rides better. I can't imagine anything riding better than my meltzer but we will see next week.

No, it rides really smooth [33psi] and with less noise then the OE Dunnies and maybe just a tad noisier then a Metzler.
I have no complaints with it whatsoever.

ran down to ky for the whiskey run, 1st timer saying i had a great time,   made a list of new toys i saw down there. Also, the new tire was great. less effort to turn, scraped  a few times   i likes that. Any way the new tire is going to work. now i gotta plan the lube differently. my vote is 3 thumbs up on the Kenda. Thanks for the post on it.

I am going to try this when my Bridgestone, (regular radial front tire)  wears out, Not sure if I will go with the D404 or the Kendra or the Bridgestone rear. Do they have any effect on the speedometer? I currently have a Goodyear TT on the rear.

I just ordered a(rear) kenda k671 st over the phone with the local harley shop.  He priced it at $100 and $115 out the door with mouting and balancing. I know I could have gotton it for $50  at jakewilson.com and jc whitney advertises $58 with free shipping but jc don't ship til the 18th and jake is out of stock and I need it on my bike by Friday. Going on a long trip this weekend and my Metzler finally been used up.  Can't wait to see how it rides. Like I said before, I doubt it out performs my metz but I will never know unless I give it a try.

Looking forward to your comparison report. My E3 was in bad shape when I threw the Kenda 671 on so it was difficult to judge for me, but I'm very happy with it in all respects including high speed peg dragging. I'm at 33-34psi & 36psi in the GYTT.

Hopefully I'll have it on by Friday. I'm going to have my wife drop my wheel off Thursday. I plan on running at the recomended psi and I really hope it works out. I'll be sure and let everyone know how it rides.

Ok, got er done. I rode to work this morning with my brand new Kenda. The tire rides great. I live north of Atlanta and work south of Atlanta. I rode down 285 in the hammer lane. I know the speedometer is off because of the size difference but it was smooth riding at any speed. Even with no hands. At times I exceeded 100 mph just to test the waters. I see no problems with this tire so far. I need to test it in the twisties. I'll get back with ya'all later

With a reduction of OEM profile 80 to the Kenda 70. Your indicated speed is incrementally higher.
Example: Indicated 70 mph is truly 64 mph a 6 mph variance.
             Indicated 105 mph is truly 90 mph a 15 mph variance.
All as per GPS...If my rememberer is working.

Sorry, busy coding a program ["save work" just finished], maybe someone else will provide the math to determine % of variance.

Incrementally it's a 12.5% actual speed decrease from indicated.

So,

Indicated 15 mph is truly 13.13 mph.  A 1.87 mph incremental % decrease from indicated for true speed.

  tire rides great, twisties, straights I even had it in the rain storm. I'm not a 100% confident yet so I stopped at the waffle house and ate some of berts chii until the rain stopped but the roads were still wet when I left. I'm fix'n to go north to Helen right now. If ya'all see anyone riding with shorts and flips flops that would be me. I'll be going up 129 to 180 then down 75. (taking my long normal route, lol)  I'll probablly stop at the local pub and get a cold one with a souvenier cup then head back home around darkish. Can't stay off of it.

I pulled my gps out on the way  home last night, it showed a 6 mph difference at any speed. It's 53 miles to work with the normal tire and 54 1/2 miles with the smaller tire.

Well if it did it's because of an inherent discrepancy already present in your sensor system. Because there's no disputing mathematics.

The lower profile presents as a percentage and a percentage is going to increase or decrease [as with a 90 profile] incrementally as your speed does.

So your result is informative to all in that true speed will vary from bike-to-bike and is also relative to tire wear.

When I do the math... and accounf for rim diameter and sidewall height etc... I get a 83.1" circumference on a 150/80/17 tire.  and a 79.39" circumference on a 150/70/17 tire. 

Circumference = 150 x .8 x 2 + 17" You got to do unit conversion in there too and should get 671.8 mm or 26.45" diameter.  Circumference is Diameter x pi = 83.1".
Circumference = 150 x .7 x 2 + 17" You got to do unit conversion in there too and should get 641.8 mm or 25.27" diameter.  Circumference is Diameter x pi = 79.39".

Thus results a .9554 ratio for speed.  Sooo...

If it indicates 70, your speed is REALLY 70 x .9554 = 66.88

I think DFragon just devided 70 by 80 to get the 12.5% difference. 

I agree that that does not include any previous overspeed non-accuracy issues that are already existing, and will be affected by tire wear etc.
