Bearing going bad maybe?

2000 Interstate with 70,000 miles...
Today while out on a 400 mile lunch run. 2 up with the wife. I started hearing what I describe as a tire whine in long sweeper turns. It seems to be louder on left hand turns. But ist there on right handers as well. This is at hiway speeds when I am hearing it. At first I thought it might be tire related. So I checked the Avons.  48PSI in the rear and 46psi in the front. They were warm from the previous leg of the trip. Both have about 3000 miles on them. And I didn't see any abnormal wear. They look round if you know what I mean.
I am thinking it might be a bearing in the rear. But never had one fail before and don't know what the early sounds are.
Any Idea's?

Better safe than sorry. It is easy to check. Just pull the wheel and stick your finger in the bearing and feel.

Re-check those tires. Even a very small wear pattern can cause the problem you are describing.

I have exactly the same symptoms and same mileage you have only with Dunlops, and it is the tires.

It certainly will not hurt to check the bearings, but I would suspect the tires first.

My front Avon Cobra is the noisiest tire I have ever had. Handles great so it stays until worn. Wont hurt a thing to remove the wheels and check the bearings. Just good peace of mind, and with 70,000 miles could very well be a bad bearing.

You need to check the bearings to be sure.  Good chance it is the tire though.

when you put your finger in to check the bearing;

press on the inside race (the surface the axel slides through) and move it back and forth about one full turn.

It should feel be absolutely smooth no increase  in effort or catching as you roll the race.
