Buying and replacing the Air Filter

Hay guys I need to come here to the knowledge well and drink again ,Im Thinkin I should replace the air filter on MY I/S and I noticed the K&N filters are quite a bit more expensivethab the stock  replacement  and that I dont mind ,I have K&N filters on my choped cb750 and on my 92 jeep cherokee so i like um but i also have modified intake systems on both so here is my question ,is the K&N stock replacement filter worth  the added expence? As always ur help and suggestions are greatly appreciated Mal :coolsmiley:

oops i should mention my i/s is stock ,stock exhaust  and stuff would i need to rejet if i went with a k&n

No, you won't have to rejet.......

My bike has been modified and I don't run the prefilter.

In your case where the bike is stock, I think it is best for you to run the prefilter.

Someone with better memory than mine will jump in here however....  

DO NOT do any mods to the air box.  If ya do, make damn sure ya have a complete one to put on it after she runs crappy on ya.    Don't ask how I know that.

If anything, get a spacer and longer bolt to raise the front of the tank.

This is a fellow member from Arizona, he has good stuff.   The spacer is the 5th item on the page.   You will need a bolt just below the bushing.  I have #1.

If your bike is completely stock, keep it completely stock. I would venture to say it will not let you down. You will not have to change that filter often enough to make a dollar difference, it is not difficult to change and you will have to follow the same procedure to service the other. Other than routine maintenance, Valkyries are great and very dependable, don't tinker with it, don't try to make it leap long distances in a single bound, just enjoy it.

There, I love to insert my opinion.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Thanks guys i appreciate all the input Im consigering the K&N because ive read in a few places that valk riders who steped up to the K&N noticed improved gas milage  which as we all know Valks are a thirsty Breed ,and wouldnt mind gettin a lil better milage out of it ,,,i run K&N on my cb750 chop but it is modified  with bigger cam ,4 to exhaust  modified intake and so on but ive never used a K&N on a stock application so i am lookin to see if any one put a K&N on a stock Valk and if it had advantages affects :coolsmiley:

Gas mileage would not be a good reason to switch to KN as really you need the prefilter and therefore there's really no difference. The only other reason is maintenance that might be worth it.

The best reason for a k&n is to extend the the period between the need to service your filter and fart around with pulling your fuel tank and messing with fuel and vent lines.
You buy it back in time spent if not the cost over a long period.
Don't expect a performance increase.It just makes sense.

Mine will leap long distances in a single bound.  Go with the K&N.  Experts will tell you it doesn't filter quite as well as the OEM.  They're right.  It is, however, adequate.  The long time between servicing is a big plus.

 Bought mine new in 98 the first thing I changed was the air filter, went k&n and have not had any problems at all,clean it once a year>>>>>>>>HAPPY MOTORING<<<<<<<<
