IS fuel sending unit problem

I just got my IS and have only run it to reserve once, but on the ride home put 1300 miles on it, gasing up about every 120 miles when I hit towns for a rest/stretch. The fuel gas looses one line by the time I gas up at the 120 miles, and when it ran down to reserve, the gauge was showing just over 1/2 full.

I would think my problem is that the float arm is bent wrong. I've look over the forum and this issue hasn't come up before. I take it that I would need to take the sending unit out of the tank, check it over, and then using a meter try to figure out where to dend the float arm.

Unless someone who happens to have one out will measure theirs for me, standing upright and arm lower, how high off the ground?

This wont be done till I need to remove the tank for something else like the air cleaner or petcock fix.

Thanks in advance.

It's possible someone has replaced it and put it in wrong, that will give a half tank reading when near empty as I recall.  If you can loosen and raise the tank enough to see the wires coming from the sender out the bottom of the tank, they should be exiting/pointing to the rear. If they're exiting from the front of the mounting hole, the sender is in wrong.

OK, that's great advise, something I might be able to do with a mirror even. I'll check.

If it is, then I'll just need to get a new seal for when I take it out (which I'll need to do anyways).
