Good job on a private citizen.

When I moved into Chicago in the mid 90's I all ready had a 140 lb. Akita. Great pets, with knowledgeable handling [required], and very protective. People would cross the street to the other sidewalk. It was hilarious because they didn't know he was quite docile. That's until he either sensed danger or my uneasiness or by my command. I had witnessed his abilities with stray dogs and 1 attempted B & E to our home. I wasn't home. The burglar only left the deadbolt hanging by 1 of 4 screws. Enough to only see in. I can imagine his surprise when he saw my buddy just sitting there waiting for him.
You see, Akita's will not bark a warning or any sound. They will let the intruder in as if they understand the law of home defense. He ain't leaving without killing the dog though.

Turned out neighbors called the cops and they ended up beating the $hit out of this guy. Apparently he gave up on the rear approach and then tried the front [dumbass]. What a bloody mess I saw when I got home.

Needless to say, having shot competitively for many years, I didn't own a firearm. So, shortly after moving in I purchased a .40 cal. and only had to lock 'n load once for another incident.
Thankfully I never had to use it because I would have never been able to afford a defense even if only wounding an intruder inside my home.
