Wiring for lights

I am adding some 50 watt driving lights to my I/S.
Where should I wire them to?
I tied into a wire inside a the rubber boot behind the ride side cover but the wire is thinner then the wiring from the lights. So far it works but I didn't take for a ride yet and it does go off with the key.

    You should use a relay and switch for
your lights.
    Go to shoptalk up top of page for
wireing instructions. If what you found is
what we call the Acc plug it is only 5 AMPS
and is not made  for what you have it going to.

You should use a relay, if you didn't already.

That wire you used behind the side cover would be a good choice to drive the relay, but not your
lights directly... here's the wiring diagram I used recently to install my driving lights...



If you view the diagram image directly it might look bigger (it is plenty big to see all the detail), the VRCC site
scales images to fit on the page...

I used the blue wire going to the headlight to drive my relay (the "any wire with power when the ignition
is on" wire) so my lights only come on when the high beams are on...  you'd probably want to use the
wire behind the side cover instead...



There's a lot of good Valkyrie specific wiring diagrams at rattlebars.com, and they have a picture
that totally demystifies relays if you need it (it really helped me with the first accessory I hooked
to my Valkyrie)...

Thanks I didn't think it was right. Now I put a relay and I feel like it's right. I don't know why this light kit didn't come with a relay. Just so they could sell it cheaper. Boy those 2 50 watt lights are bright and look good.

The one thing I would change about hubcapsc's diagram, is the fuse size.  (2 x 50W / 12V) x 1.2 = 10A fuse.
