Dead Battery??????

I started the beast to get it out of the garage, so that I could get up into my attic. Well lo and behold went to restart her and it cranked but no start. I noticed that I was low on fuel so I flipped her into reserve with same result.

I also noticed that my trip odometers reset at zero. Well after a few more attemps, you guessed it I just got alot of clatter.

Any thoughts oh great Valk owners? Battery, or some other issue that I need to look at?

Thanks for your help-

sure sounds like battery (how old is it?),,, check connections at battery first though.

Before you go  and lay down a hundred or more for a new battery.

Check one thing.

Take the Driver's seat off and check those battery bolts.

I have found on mine the blots will loosen up after a while and I don't know why.

If They are not tight , even the least bit loose.

Clean Contacts, Tighten and retry the starter.

If they were loose to begin with, charge it and then see if it cranks.

This day in time it pays to save a little money.

I had another Valk Owner tell me this when I told him my battery bolts were loose for no obvious

reason.

Free Advice if it does not work I will give your money back.

I don't know the age of the battery, as I bought the bike a year ago with 23,000 miles.

I will take off the seat (if I can figure that out) and give the connections a good cleaning and tightening-

Thanks again folks-

Seat is the easiest thing you can remove on that bike besides the Fuel Cap.

Ignition key lock under the front of your seat, insert key turn clockwise and you will hear it realese.

Nothing to it.

If it is  standard or Tourer even the better, no radio in the way.

I think a 10 mm open end wrench and turn them clockwise to tighten, if they need cleaning it

will be obvious.

Charge it slow if you have to..

2 amp or less.

Battery tender in your future is a good idea.

Prevents low batteries and stops or slows sulfation.

on the seat side of the opening just under and in front of the the front of the seat is a key hole, use your ignition key there to release the front of the seat, you may have to press down hard on the front of the seat while turning the key.  Once the front is released just lift and pull forward and it's off!     Big AL beat me to the punch!!!  :)  :cooldude:

Can I use jumper cables from my car to jump the bike? Any special instructions?

As long as you can make the connection with out shorting the pos to frame.  I have done the car jump with no problem.

OK to jump from a non running auto. Don't have the car running could get a spike.

Slick, a battery tender is $20. at walmart..batteries last 3 X longer.
Alternator is not running against a low battery so it should last longer as well
GOOD LUCK.  :cooldude: :o

Got home from work today and took the seat off (your right simple) connections were very loose and tightened them up- still no start. Hooked up some jumpers to my car and boom first try, fired like a champ.

Guess it's time to buy a battery charger and see if she'll hold a charge- or else go buy a new battery-

Ran her about ten minutes (low fuel remember) and shut her down three times, she fired right back up-

Thanks Big Al & Cliff, as well as the other members that chimed in to help a brother out-
