Darkside Question????

Thinking of going to a Goodyear Assurance TripleTred 205/60R-16 (Darkside) Any comments on preformance of this tire -vs- others welcome.     Also will this have much affect on engine rpm to speed as compared to a stock size Venom R tire?

I'm on my 3rd TT now I get about 20-25k on em`, Bike still shows about 5mph faster than what you are going. No handling issues. I run 36psi on it on a Tourer.

I am on my first TT, no other C/T to compare it to, but I love it!  It has 13,250 miles on it, and still going strong.

Fat6 if you didn't live clear on the other side of missouri I would come over and give you "moral" support.  I have only ran the Faulken 512 (second one) and I love it.  The tire is a reasonable soft tire which allows for good handling going into the corners.  I have one ready to go on the tourer but haven't replaced the motorcycle tire on it just yet.  I have a gps mount on the I/S and the Tourer and both speedo's are off 5 mph by the time you reach 70 speedo shows 75.  I guess that is to make you think you are going faster than you really are!

I'd encourage you to replace your valve stems.  Good insurance for 10-15 bucks.

I run 33psi solo, 36 psi two-up. I like it better on long straight rides (which are not my style). I have no complaints, just different. I will be going back to my beloved Battle-Axe 200 when I were this out.
 I recommend riding one before installing one, cause you'll have it for a good while. I really like getting into the bends and I honestly don't trust it. All my buddies like bustin them corners and I'm always falling back, (used to be first).  I know that many do love it, I've changed my stand on this issue.
 Please no flames, honestly just not for me. I can say I tried it, I was curious.
 The 205/60/16 is closest to your stock tire, The 205/55/16 is lower and you will increase your rpm's slightly. The 205/65/16 is taller and you will decrease your rpm's slightly.

At least you KNOW from your own experience whether or not you like it. I love my GTT
and wouldn't go back to a round tire unless I didn't have a choice. There are other, softer
compound, more aggressive tires out there if you ever think about trying it again. I have
18,000 on my current GTT and it will last me this year and probably most of next year.
I can ride as fast as I like w/o feeling like I'm pushing the limit of the tire. I don't drag my
pegs like I used to, guess I 'outgrew' it.  YMMV.

I have over 30k on my GTT . No where near worn out. I would be putting my 4th " bike " tire on about now. Cost 175.00 including mount/balance. VS 4 bike tires. I noticed the bike rolled easier, like when I was backing into a parking spot with the wife on it. I normally average 40 hpg . That's up 3 from pre-darkside. A friend followed me through some corners right after I put it on . He bought 1 that week.

...great tire, mine has a bit more than 41,000 miles and is still okay, but, will replace within another couple of thousand miles.  Handling is just great one or two up with and without a trailer.  I am not a wimp and run pretty hard.

Could be that I have slowed down, my last front tire was a Dunlop E-3 and it went 25,122.0 miles and was just getting to touch the wear marks.  The previous one only went 18,000+

Tundra,  I have similar feelings about my Potenza.  No worries about diving into the corners, just not real sure that I like the "different" feel of the CT.   Not really unhappy at all, but will probably go back to a mc tire when the rear end maintenance required.  We will see.  Kilroy

I started out on a GY TT 205/55/16 a month ago.  It was different and I was just getting used to it and had to replace it.  It rubbed even though the nut cage mod had been done when riding 2 up.  I replaced the bolt with a grade 8 bolt that I cut the head down by half.  Left a good deep groove in the sidewall and I didn't feel safe riding to MI with it that way.

I changed it out for a GY TT 205/60/16, a little taller and a little narrower.  MAN, what a difference the narrower tire makes.  This tire rides so much like a MC tire, I sometimes forget that it is a CT. 

P.S.  I run 43 psi.

All I wanted to know was with going to a 205/60R-16 as compared to a stock motorcycle wheel and both doing 75 mph would there be much if any difference in engine RPM due to tire diameter difference.
From what Stude is saying there must not be much difference in tire diameter when comparing MT to the GTT.

    My experience is many things are superior with car tire: braking, side wind stability, balance at stops, great in the rain. My only concern is when I am on rutted or poorly maintained blacktop. It can be a handfull.
   I did feel a lot more confident after I swapped out my Avon front tire for a Dunlop E3. The Avon, while a superior tire, seemed to be too twitchy with the big tail in the bag wagging the dog.

I have posted before:  I love my Goodyear Eagle on the back of my Interstate.

I drive all kinds of roads, and do agree the bike is a tad twitchie at slow speeds on nasty roads.

We have a lot of road construction this summer, so there are a lot of roads with bowling ball type gutters from the overloaded gravel trucks.

I still consider my front foot pegs to be fuses -

I think having a more rounded car tire is a psycological thing. Don't believe it makes much difference.

Instability has been reported with inexpensive/non-speed rated tires. Not saying all these are, but be sure and buy quality and a speed rating.
