I posted a similar reply on the IS in Wylie thread. Since they have to get geared and pick up the bike on Friday, their schedule is gonna be very up in the air. I am not sure if they intend to leave out Friday late or Saturday early. I am talking to Dag to make sure we have tags and insurance in place for them and will continue to try to help plan a ride route for them. I am certainly hoping they will choose to get everything in place and stay somewhere around Denton Friday night. This will give them an opportunity to get a feel for the bike Friday afternoon, possible eat dinner with them on Friday night (maybe Parker Bros, can't hardly get more Texan than that) and plan a Saturday ride out to OKC with them.

Keep us posted if they decide to leave the metroplex on Saturday. I might be off that day and would like to escort them out of Texas and possibly ride with them all the way to Oklahoma City. It all depends on my work schedule.

Åge and his wife Unni is overwhelmed by what they read on the forum and the emails I have received and forwarded to them. They are very exited.
They are studying the map and will come back with a more specific route. The time they have available indicates that there is room for a few detours along the way.
I'll say hello from them and say thank you for all your help so far. A special thanks to Ghillie

They really look forward to this trip, and I if know the Texas people right you will make this visit unforgettable for them.

This is yet another example of how great this club is.

Looks like they are taking your advice Jim and are gonna just ride it. I am afraid this leaves me out of a ride though. I cannot afford to be out of pocket the entire day Friday so if anyone else is available to ride out with them jump on it. Al Lamb's is probably the best place to gear up overall. If they can be there in the morning 9-9:30, they could have the bike picked up by late lunch. Maybe we can convince them to have lunch with us somewhere between Wylie and McKinney.

OH GOOD! My misunderstanding. I thought they wanted to ride to Wichita Falls on Friday and Amarillo on Saturday. Well then let's organize a ride to at least Wichita Falls. I still think Denton is a good jump point for them to stay Friday night. Breakfast in Denton or early lunch in Wichita Falls. Since they are gonna be here Friday night, if anyone just wanted to meet for dinner Friday I think that would be nice.

I offered up a couple of ideas, ea breakfast in Denton and ride out with them, or ride out with them and eat lunch in Wichita Falls. I think that is about as far as I want to run.

So, where could I meet up with the couple? Guessing that the ride out of Amarillo will be Sunday? Unless they want to stay another night and go see the play 'TEXAS' down in Palo Duro Canyon. They have shows on Tuesday - Sunday and take Mondays off.

I have plans to work a rest stop for the MS ride on the 17th and then a 25th anniversary party that afternoon in Pampa.

Would love a reason to take off on Monday or Tuesday for a days worth of riding.

Favorite Burger at Coyote Bluff Cafe - Made to the Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives. Hotter-than-Hell burger is great. 2 blocks south of I-40 on Grand.
Favorite Mexican food = La Campna just off I-27 and 26th.
Favorite BBQ is in Borger Texas at Sammy's. (not related to any down south)

I am suggesting to them that they stay in the Denton area Friday night. Ponder Steakhouse or Traildust were discussed as possible venues Friday night. Because of the time difference, they will be early risers. I will probably not have definitive answers on their plans until Thursday night when they arrive as for when they would like to get started Sat am.

Lunch on Saturday will depend on riding style and stops..
7 am start on road will put them into Clarendon TX about noon. Really good burger place downtown and up the hill, if that makes any sense. Hard 6 hrs if just tooling up Hwy 287 to Amarillo.

Or they could turn at Estellene and go through Turkey Texas and the home of Bob Wills. Maybe eat lunch there or in Silverton. Probably get a good Tex-Mex there. Then a pretty ride to Claude from there and into Amarillo. This would eat up a good 8-9 hrs depending.
Plenty of great steak, Tex-Mex, Mexician, BBQ places to eat here.
There are still portions of RTE 66 in place where they diverted I-40. We can look for those before they leave Amarillo.
A quick hour drive to Adrian Texas will get them to the Half-way point of Route 66, if that matters! Half-way cafe has some of the best pie in the area.

Sidecar has a good idea on the route, maybe he could do a little polishing and publish it. It does depend a lot on what these folks want to do - go straight and fast or stay off the highway.

I'm hoping to make the ride and if it is an early start, I'll likely be along. Anyone familiar with that area feel free to chime in on what favorite road you think they should see. Since they have a long way to go, I'm thinking a reasonably efficient route that could look something like the following (not the shortest route, but gets in a few curves, a couple of little towns, a lake, a ride through Scotland, etc.)

Start at Krum and head 1173-455 into Forestburg
Up 677 to St Jo
West on 59 out to Bowie
174 west across to 148
north on 148 and west again at 1883
left to go west at 172 across Lake Arrowhead and into Scotland (not the Higlands)
North on 281 to Wichita Falls and depending on where they are going from there, we can direct them through or around.

Those who ride that area a lot can feel free to suggest alternatives. Don't know what the timing is and whether folks were thinking of eating in WF or somewhere else, but

I talked to Chris earlier in the week. We can't nail down anything until after our guests arrive.

As far as I know, Friday dinner is a go and the Saturday ride is wait and see.

Wish I had time to ride with you guys on Saturday. I am in Jacksboro, and am familiar with most of the rodes Sidecar mentioned in his post. And who knows, I might get a bit of time Saturday morning to meet everyone.. I do need to run to Wichita Falls to do some errands.

There are several good places to eat mexican food in WF. Look on Southwest Parkway, near Maplewood or head down a bit farther and you will find many of the eating places to be in the vicinity of Kemp. As for BBQ...near downtown.. the Branding Iron on Scott street, near the intersection of Scott and Kell East. Fairly easy access from 287, just watch the signs. They should be open Saturday for lunch...check first, and note...no credit cards!

Be sure and mention, as they head up 287 to mind their speed. I make that run to Amarillo and beyond fairly regular. There are numerous places to get a speeding ticket if you push things a bit. Electra, city police, sits in the median, and then, near Harrold and Oklaunion...TX DPS.. seen several bikes pulled over in that area. Also, Estelline....never know what he is driving, gets a new car fairly regular, local guy.. just follow the speed limit, they got tired of people driving a hundred thru there and apparently make a bit of revenue off those that don't slow down!!

If there was time, they might consider riding riding 207 south from Claude and around/near Palo Duro Canyon.

Temps Saturday are supposed to be high and humidity will be high also. Depending upon if they are used to that, or not, they may need to head North as fast as they can to get out of the heat. The temps and humidity usually drop north of Childress and near Clarendon.

Our friends are here, they picked up the Valk and looks like they were born to ride her. We are sitting at Al Lamb's while they put the Scala in the helmets. Dinner tonight 7pm at the Prairie House. They are staying at the Best Western at 35 and 380. They plan to leave out around 9am Sat for Amarillo if anyone would like to ride with them.

I think Godfire volunteered me to lead the ride in the morning. He called it "delegation".

I think the plan is to meet at the Best Western on the NE corner of 380 and I35, and have KSU around 9. I'm playing it safe a bit with the route for a few reasons. Its gonna get hot fast, I dont know if they are used to riding long distances for a while, and with a later start, it will put them in Amarillo later. Here is the planned route. Things can change if they want to take it a bit more scenic, but I would like to make it home before its 100 myself. Once we get to Saint Jo, we will stop at the biker store on the square, we can see what people want, and change accordingly.

I dont know where to eat in Wichita Falls though, so if someone wants to point me somewhere or take the lead that would be great.

35 to Sanger
455 from Sanger to Forestburg
677 from Forestburg to Saint Jo
82 to Wichita Falls with a probable stop in Nocona for gas for those who need.
