What a bitch to install!  And it's only 4 stupid bolts.   :tickedoff:

mine must have came with non-stupid bolts, because it was a breeze.  Sorry G-Man, I had a very easy time of it, now I did luck out and decide on my own.....(later read this on the board) to remove one set of bolts through the fender at a time so the fender couldnt move and the holes get out of alignment............I assume that was the problem......... :-\

G-Man

You hit the nail on the head.  I removed all the bolts at once, removed the rear half of the fender to wire up the trailer harness, then noted that something dropped behind the front holes in the fender rail.  It's a flat black piece, just inside of the front hole on the rail.  I can get a small flat head through the hole and either above or below this piece.  But, I can't move this piece away from the hole to allow the fender bolt in.  I looked at an exploded view on partsfish and didn't see anything between the rail and the fender.  Looks like I'm removing the shock bolts and rails to investigate.

Put mine on my Standard 3 years ago, then transferred it to my Interstate 2 years ago...

... I still randomly swear out loud about it... people think I have tourette's

I found that if you have an extra set of hands or 6, it helps. Also once three bolts are in, keep them loose or it will be downright ugly trying to get the fourth one in.

I have a fairly new-to-me Interstate and had the same problem.  I took my hitch off when I took apart the whole rear end to check it out and service it for the first time.  When I went to put it back on, the front mounting holes would not line up.  I had the back ones in b/c I went darkside and did the nut cage mod and had the bolts  mounted from the inside.  Front ones wouldn't line up no matter what I did.  Someone on the tech board had the same problem and told me to get someone out there with me and lift up on the trunk - worked for him.  I had my 6 foot, 200 lb. 20 yo son come out and do that and he had to lift up on the trunk with all his might, but it worked.  If you don't have a trunk, you might want to try lifting up the back of the rear fender.  I could only see the bottom half of the hole.

Pardon my question but where would the hitch mount up on a standard?  I have been thinking of getting a trailer lately.

The Hitchdoc (IMO the best hitch out there) mounts via the fender mounting bolts on the fender rails.

HotRod, maybe this will help.  I'll be trying this soon on my standard.
