Road Trip Report

I came from Yreka, CA and my brother came out from Foxhome, MN on his VTX 1300, two buddies, one on a VTX 1300and the other on a HD Ultra Classic and we hooked up in Osburn, ID.  My part of the trip covered 4634 miles.  Our trip included side trips out of Osburn, Yellowstone NP (again on my way back to Yreka), Beartooth Highway, Little Big Horn Battle Site and my 40th high school reunion in Sisseton, SD and all the High Plains and High Desert any one person can stand.  My brother also went up to Glacier NP while waiting for me to get to Osburn.  It was a memorable trip and I want to thank all my friends for their extreme hospitality.  My butt indured many a 500+ mile days on the stock '03 seat.

Returning to Yreka, my non-Honda belly tank fuel pump failed along I-90 just short of the Pierre, SD exit.  A tow took me to the Pierre Harley shop.  There a Harley tech bypassed my belly tank and returned the bike to a gravity fuel feed as it was originally while showing his disgust at having to work on a non-Harley product.  I lost about 30 hours while in Pierre, the use of three galloons of fuel storage and 100 miles of range.  Then in Boise, ID, the bike started to handle poorly.  A check of the tire pressure showed 14 pounds in the rear when I usually run 45 pounds.  After filling the tire I continued to lose 10 pounds every 100 miles.  So I probably picked up something just outside of West Yellowstone.  I still haven't found what it was.  There is now 10k miles on the rear tire.  I may baby this Metzler 2k and then go to a 200.

How was the Little Bighorn? Going there around Aug 11th and then hit Pompey's Pillar as a day trip from Sturgis. Then head back home to Ind. Any tips would be good.

The Little Bighorn Battle site is something that you have to spend some time at to appreciate its place in history.  I recommend that you attend the lecture first, view the vidio and spend some time in the museum, then tour the battle field.  It most likely will be very hot and humid but nothing that you don't already get in IN.  Our trip took almost three weeks, but there is never enough time.
