DIGGER

end of Sept I've got 4 days to leave Houston, Tx and tour Arkansas.  Gonna go up 59 into Oklahoma to the Willamina? Hyway headed east from Ok to Arkansas.  Then ride hyway 7 in Arkansas.    Any of you Arkansas locals know of anything really scenic or neat to see in upper Arkansas?    I like back roads that are mountainous and curvy.   Riding with 2 Harleys....only because they like for me to lead on the Valk.....ha.

I hear is is a great rally.  It is at the end of September

Digger,
Welcome to God's country!  Here's some roads you should consider.
- AR Hwy 28 from Mena to Danville.
- AR Hwy 309 from Havana to Paris across Mt Magazine - highest mountain in AR.  State park at crest with nice new lodge, new modern cabins and camping areas.   - AR Hwy 23 from Ozark to St Paul - "The Pig Trail"    - AR Hwy 21 from Clarksville to Boxley.  Then Hwy 74 to Hwy 7 to Harrison. OR Hwy 43 from Ponca to Harrison.    - AR Hwy 16 from St. Paul to Deer -Hwy 7.    - Hwy 123 from Hagarville to Pelsor and on to Western Grove at US 65.
I prefer any of these to Hwy 7.  These Hwy's are good pavement but without shoulders in many areas.  Hwy 7 is a designated "Scenic Byway" but it has a lot of local as well as thru traffic and not many passing zones.  You should probably try it yourselves coming or going.  It is a good drive all the way from Harrison on the North to Caddo Valley (I-30) on the South.  Any of these roads will be a fun vacation away from I-45.
I may like to join you on some of this if you care to share your itinerary.  If you need someone to scout out any roads for you beforehand  I might be able do that if you twist my arm.
Have fun riding,
Chris

i spent some nice time there a few years back based my rides out of Eureka Springs

16   23   7   21  all fun roads, also some going north into Missouri are fun

I cant remember if I took 123 or not but if in good shape that one has lots of good places on it also

Our friends went down near Deer Arkansas on some chicken guts in the road so all I can say is be careful when setting up for your turns especially if it is wet as there are many trucks carrying poultry and animals to slaughter and the roads may have "stuff" on them in places.

The pig trail was fun, not challenging like the snake or the dragon but you have to pay attention and can scrape the pegs in lots of places and there are no traffic lights to slow you down
If you don't know where your going any road will take you there

I just returned today from a 700 mile trip. The Pig Trail aka AR23 was nice, but the pavement is a little rough in spots.

I rode AR7 early morning and it was beautiful. It was worth the trip alone.

I also rode PushMountain road. Great with not much traffic

Like Sneaky Snake said its Gods country. Absolutly beautiful.
I did find out Harrison is in a dry county. I have a habit of picking DRY countys to stay in.
