I joined VRCC, Texas Chapter shortly after purchasing a wrecked 98 Valk Tourer.( You came highly recommended by one of your members, Curtis 2Valks). The bike needed a lot of TLC but is a solid machine. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help in answering personal questions and for all the well written tech tips and how to's in Shoptalk. I would also like to share the progress on the Valk. So far with your help I've done my own version of the exhaust mod, added Duece risers, cleaned the carbs and de-smogged it. Also as a hobby I custom build all of my own seats and do my own body repair and painting. I'm not a professional but get a lot of satisfaction out of doing my own work, and save some bucks 8).
Click on the pic below for a few pics of progress so far

Very nice job.  Looks like you took this on right away, and made 'er look great, and with that carb cleaning, she should run great, too.

Congratulations.

Black Dog

WOW  :cooldude:  Nice job!

Looks like you are pretty good at fixin' stuff!

Now, ride it like ya stole it

That is an impressive transformation.  Did the project wind up being larger than you thought it would be?  It sure looks pretty.

Did you use a rattle can to paint or paint gun and compressor? I really like the red color. I've thought about painting mine the same color.

i hate to start something here, but the solid red ones REALLY ARE the fastest.  :)  nice work, oldman! :cooldude:

Thanks for the compliments 8). To answer a few questions, I'm not going to be able to make it to the BBQ although it does sound like fun, I promised to repaint my wife's Magna next week. The project has not been more than I expected, but I am retired and it's what I enjoy. You can get automotive grade paint (acrylic enamal) put in rattle cans, but this is basecoat/clearcoat with a little red pearl added to the clear. I have a gravity feed HVLP gun and was able to use a good friends Paint booth. I've still got some graphics to add but plan on doing that when I do my wife's. And yes, Red is the fastest color :cooldude:. Thanks again for all the compliments 8) 8)..

I did the same as you two years ago and had a great time doing it.

Great job on the repairs. Love the color.  My favorite.

Not sure where that rumor about red being fastest started.  They usually are a bit blurry from the speed....

Hey RainMaker, I hope we get the chance to ride together sometime, cause I've never seen a blue Valkyrie anywhere but my mirrows and it looked so small 8) ;D

Either (1) your mirrors are installed backwards and you are watching the blue Valkyries pull away or (2) you must have gone past some parked blue Valkyries.  Passing a blue valk only counts when someone is riding it. :coolsmiley:

I agree we do need to share some wind sometime in the future.

It's possible, they're so slow they all look parked as I pass  ;D ;D ;D. .. We're out in the Celina and Frisco area a lot in the summer, hope to get a chance to meet up and do some riding soon..  We better stop this, which color is the fastest, before the guys with the slow silver bikes get their feeling hurt :D ;D 8)..

When you get to Frisco, you'd better watch out for a certain yellow & black Valkyrie.  Those bumblebees really do fly.   :coolsmiley:

Of course, if you bump the displacement by 20%, add fuel injection, and wrap it in lots of dark blue metallic tupperware, things get really fast!   :o  Come on, Mark.  Cut me a little slack.  At least it's blue!   ;)

Houdini

You guys crack me up.  Everyone knows that the motors that aren't fast enough for the black Valk's go into the colored ones.

the colored ones.

Chuck,
"the colored ones," I'd like to think of my Valk as a "Valkyrie of color." Not a colored one!

OOPS!  Sorry; I wasn't being politically correct in my Valkyrie description.
