Is 40 psi to much ? Seems to be wearing more on the center. Planning on goin on a trip around 2k and the tire is prob. 1/2 to 5/8 wore. Not sure to chance it or not.

if in doubt, change it out.

1/2 to 5/8 worn, to me, means the water handling is in doubt.bout

and, you'll be wondering about it the whole trip. :)

I'm on my first set of Cobras now, but I've had 3 sets of Venoms. My front got 24-27K consistently. I run 42 PSI and check almost weekly.

+1 here on the 24-25000 on a front Venom. Gots about 26k on mine now and got a new one coming in the mail this week. Probably been pushing it for the last 1k miles. Made sure I wasn't riding in the rain.

Can't say without actually looking at the tire as to your concerns, if you have unusual wear that is one thing, but based on mileage? 11k shouldn't be a worry. 40 psi been working for me.

17K on the last Cobra. It was starting to cup a bit, it was time to replace. 40 ish on the PSI.
Now if I could just keep nails out of the rear tire I might match that on a rear tire as well!  >:(

I also always got 25K miles or so from a front Venom.  I buy tires well in advance for my 2 Valks so I haven't tried a front Cobra yet (though I have one sitting in the garage).  I sure hope the Cobra is close; the Venom's long mileage was a great advantage.

Ok, I'm very interested in this topic cause I have a flat on the front right now and wondering what tire I should buy.

I don't do much riding now due to medical reasons but intend to remedy that with another surgery soon, like next week.(long story)  I'm getting the bike fixed up for w/e, vacation touring and would like a smooth ride. The wife and I are not "spring chickens" anymore and don't have to go 100MPH around corners like we used to!

Here's my questions:

Reading the reports here on the Venoms and the Cobras it seems the Venoms get much more miles out of them, like double.  What would be the advantage of going to a Cobra? Are they a smother ride?  Do they corner better?

I'd like a tire that I wouldn't have to worry about for 20K or so miles.

And where would be a good place to get them?

+2 on the Venoms. I have >15,000 miles on my current one and it looks nearly brand new. I run 42 psi in it and check the pressure religeously.

Just replaced the rear with a Cobra last week.

The Cobra replaced the Venom. As far as I know the Venom is no longer available.

Where are you guys finding Avon Venom tires in sizes to fit our Valks? ???

I can't find either front or rear Venom tires in our sizes on Avon's Website. I do see them in the Cobra model, and that is what comes up when you use their tire selector on the site? I'm confused. What am I missing?  :-\

Yup, Avon discontinued the Venom in the size for the Valk and replaced it with the Cobra. Supposed to be specifically designed for heavy crusers and touring bikes.

Just got mine on last week (New Front Cobra, rear C/T) Looks good and feels good.

Does Avon make a rear Venom/Cobra sized to fit the front rim?

Pulled my Venom R front at 20,000, the last 14,000 of which were with Dyna Beads.  Worn, but not to the wear bars yet.

I bought the last set of Cobras from Cycle World in Daytona Beach.
$182 for the tire and $45 for installation and balance.

Ive got 10,000 on my Cobra and its worn pretty bad on the left side, out roads around here are REALLY rough so Im lucky to get that much out of one.

wild6

Got 17k on my last Cobra (with darkside rear).
Put 10k so far on my current Cobra and it looks like it still has about 50% left.
Used Venoms before and had similar life.
Run about 40psi in it.
